Wow in Canada they're talking about raising the cost of the stamp from $0.63 to $0.85. At the same time they're phasing out home delivery. *sigh*.

Eta and they were jerks and took the permanent stamps off the market basically as soon as they announced it.

@Alivoo01: In a lot of the newly built places, they have those public mail boxes on every second block or so... however, in older places (like where I live) I'm not sure what they are planning to do. I'm assuming put up mailboxes like that there too?
@NurseMommy: Ah I'm reading that it will be $1 a stamp if purchased one at a time, but $0.85 if purchased in packs.

@NurseMommy: I actually like our neighborhood box. We have one that locks so I think our mail is quite secure. It even has an extra large slot for parcels (they leave the key for that one in your slot if you have a parcel).
My parents in Toronto have a mail slot on the door--it seems quite obvious that no one is home if anyone peels through when they forget to hold their mail.

@pui: Do you have door to door delivery? I'm in a newer subdivision so we have a community box area. It's not that bad. Gives me a reason to go for a walk

@babycanuck: I had door delivery in Quebec and where I live now! I know it won't be so bad, but it does kinda suck that they're raising the price of stamps and at the same time cutting back service.

@pui: agreed. Stamps to the US already went up I think 3 cents, and anything above a standard letter. Time to stock up on Permanents.

Raised here too to $.085, and they suspended the sale of the permanent fixed price stamps until the increase as soon as they announced it.

@babycanuck: Nope, jerks have suspended the sale of permanents until the increase goes into effect. My sister got engaged a couple days ago and I was going to go stock up since she'll be sending out so much mail between invites/thank you notes, but they don't have them.
