@regberadaisy: oh boy sounds like fun

We got complaints before we even moved in here. We called the head of the HOA and asked if there's restrictions on what colors we can paint the outside of the house. They said no real restrictions, just colors found in nature. Ok, in my mind every color can be found in nature, so I just went with what I wanted which was a pretty bright yellow and green for the trim. The main part of the house is white.

The next day the head of the HOA called DH and told him we were getting complaints. DH asked if we had to change it and he said no, he was just required to tell us that people were complaining about it. So I had to figure out if I wanted the house colors that I love or my neighbors to like me.

We kept the colors..... if people don't like me because I prefer bright colors I don't really care. I moved into a neighborhood where there are bright colored houses that all look different (there's also a salmon color and bright orange house on my street) because I love colors and don't want to live where every house is tan!

Our neighbor tried to get me to take down our fence (who needs fences? Let the kids run around!), and then asked if he could cut part of our fence shorter and "put it back" when we need it. Last I checked, his driveway sat on our property, so just because his van is too wide doesn't mean I need to cut my fence!

@regberadaisy: I hate situations like this. I feel so lucky that the dynamic on our little dead-end street has been so wonderful and no one gets in each other's business about what you should or shouldn't do in your own yard.

At the house I used to live in with my sister, the neighbor was old and retired. He had nothing better to do than walk around and get in everyone's business. It was nice in the fact that he was like a neighborhood watchdog, but he would actually ring the doorbell and ask you who's car was outside your house earlier that day. He had to know who your visitors were. It was creepy.

Most recently our neighbor ask us to move our boat and my husbands classic truck because he was planning on painting his fence. So we did, but we also ask him to let us know the day before so we could move our atv's and bikes to the other side. He didn't, we were home in the morning too. We took the boat out at 2 and came back to the atv's now being half white. Ugh.

@illumina: even if youre moving out, Id call the town or city on them. Since the repairs are made on your side of the property, if someone trip and injures themselves on it, its your liability. This happened to us (nobody was injured, but the fence was repaired on our side) and our town made them repair it on the spot

@Mrs. Pen: @regberadaisy: Yeah I was beyond pissed. And so embarrassed! Who on earth goes to their neighbor's door and says the words 'pap smear?!' I mean, cmonnnn! Ugh! He's just a creepy dude.

Ugh, way to get me going again...

So, we move into our new house, and start doing a LOT of yard work. Our yard is really sloped (to the point of me barely being able to walk down our yard without slipping, let alone little kids!), so we're working on terracing it. Our neighborhood is probably 1/2 fenced, 1/2 open. Two of our neighbors have fences, but we don't, so our yard is 1/2 fenced, but trees clearly offer a 'fence' for the neighbor who doesn't have a fence. So, we thought it was very obvious what our property lines were. A couple months after living there, the neighbor directly behind us (so we share a fence line), comes out to tell us that the back 6 feet of our yard is actually HIS yard, just fyi. Interesting, neighbor, why didn't you put your fence on your property line? "Well, we did, but nothing grows in that space, so it was making our yard look bad, so we moved our fence up 6 ft." AWESOME - so now WE have 6 feet of death that looks like it's in our yard. No one that comes over knows that the 6 feet of hideous mess isn't our yard, because it's clearly on our side of the fence! To make it worse, that's where they store their yard waste! If a big branch falls down, throw it over their fence. Have a bunch of firewood to store? Put it on the other side of the fence. UGH. It is hideous.

I told my husband we should build a fence on our property line so there's a weird little bit of limbo land in between our two yards... We also have a gazebo in our backyard, and I said we should paint the side of the roof that faces their yard a bright neon orange or something...

@BananaPancakes: ugh I think you must live in my neighborhood. We have a stalker-creeper neighbor who has to know what's going on ALL. THE. TIME. He's stopped me in the past and asked me where I'm going and what I'm doing. He also approached me and asked where I'd been the night before and cited the times I'd left and returned. I never speak to him anymore and if I see him out, I run in/out to avoid him. So awful!

We had someone report us for having bundled sticks out on the street too early for trash pick up. We got fined $25.
