Cuddles FTW!

I've read this before. I LOVE IT. We WIO!

This is really cute!
We ended up doing CIO because she was clearly ready and it was really easy for us. (5 minutes of fussing? big whoop.)

But as much as I agree with enjoying them while they're little creatures, I simply could not function at work with no sleep. It was dangerous for me to be driving my daughter to and from daycare on no sleep. etc. Gotta do what works for you!

@LazyLightning: to me, five minutes of fussing doesn't really count as CIO!

Ooh I didn't know there was a Facebook group. This blog gets me through the tough times of F having poor sleep

WIOer here! My son's sleep has finally improved at around 10 months. i think only b/c he's not teething right now. I believe that CIO would not have worked on my son, so I've just been dealing with sleepless night for 11 months now. At around 7 months, we started cosleeping. It's the only way I can get any sleep and be able to function at work.

@mrskc: I think it helps that she basically doesn't sleep at daycare at all, and when we get her home she only takes a really short nap. So she's a zombie by the time bed time rolls around!!

@JoJoGirl: Nope she actually dropped the middle of the night feeding on her own. Since she's so young (16.5 weeks) hubs and I have and agreement that if she wakes before midnight, we let her fuss herself back to sleep (this has happened once and the crying was for like 1 minute). If she wakes AFTER midnight and is fussing, we will get up and see if she would like a bottle. She has never done that. Girlfriend is EXHAUSTED and regularly sleeps 8:30 pm to 6:40 am and DH has to wake her to feed her before daycare.

I tried WIO, but lack of sleep makes me really stressed out. I was getting angry at DH and LO in the middle of the night. She was waking up ready to party at 10pm and not going back down till 1am, then waking every 1.5 to 2 hrs at 8 months old. I was so worn out, so we did CIO, and after 2 nights she goes right to sleep without a peep and only wakes up once to be fed. It's saved my sanity. I feel like I'm a better mom. I wish I could have waited longer, but it just wasn't working for us!

@LazyLightning: Ah. Yes our LO goes down easily at night like that, but wakes up still in the MOTN and gets up early

@LazyLightning: Awww poor thing for not sleeping at daycare. My son was doing that the past couple of weeks and he was so exhausted that we had to put him to bed to 6:30 pm.

I would be interested to know if this woman works.

@mrskc: leaving A to cry just made both of us feel shitty so I gave up on it pretty quick! We bed share for part of the night and I love the snuggles!

@MamaMoose: I think Sarah freelances as well as spending a good chunk of time running the fb groups? Lots of the women on the fb page work out of the home though.

@Elderberrygin: exactly - last night she woke up crying at 11:30, so I went in and picked her up for a cuddle. She went right back to sleep when I put her back in bed. She just needed a snuggle.

This is lovely. Im blessed with a good sleeper but she does take a while to go to sleep - two hours of rocking tonight!!! I did the first hr, DH took the second. I keep repeating "patient and present" (from the blog the other day) over and over to myself!

I did a version of WIO with both of my kids and so far they're good sleepers. But I don't necessarily think it's because of any kind of sleep training or lack thereof. I think the sleep environment is a lot more important than I realized. I totally agree with observing your child.

After trial and error, I learned that my son likes:
- the room dark but not pitch dark (a little moonlight is perfect)
- to be have his arms and legs covered but not his feet
- the white blanket, not the blue one
- his pillow to be a little high
- very slight white noise (humidifier)
- sleeping against the wall

My DD is 14 months and she likes:
- to sleep holding onto the end of a blanket
- without socks on
- the white noise machine on the highest setting (not the low one)
- pitch dark with a night light
- sleeping with her legs through the crib slats
- to drink a little water before sleep

It all sounds a little crazy when I type it all out but I realized that I (and my DH) have our own sleep preferences too, so why wouldn't children? So far, it's worked for us. Their sleep preferences might shift here and there but for the most part, this is how they sleep the most peacefully.

@banana: that is so cute! Chloe is super picky about her sleep preferences, too!
