I'm planning my LO's first birthday party for early Dec. I'm considering some ideas which are winter themed, like winter wONEderland, winter woodland, etc. and other ideas that I just like, such as hot air balloon, horses, puppies, peter pan, etc.
Would it be weird to have hot air balloons if there's snow out? Should I gravitate towards the winter themes?

I live in a hot climate year round but I will likely be doing a polar bear theme this winter. Go for it...whatever you want.

As an early December birthday, I say choose whatever you'd like! If you want a winter theme, go for it, but don't feel like you have to just because it's December. 
I personally always wanted a pool party, but we didn't have any indoor pool options to make that happen.

For DS' December birthday, im not really doing a theme, but there will be penguins and red, white, light blue and possibly silver balloons.

I think hot air balloons would be super cute! Go for what you like. LO was born early Dec too and I am not worrying too much about the season when thinking about her first birthday party.

My son is also a December birthday and one of these years, I plan to do a Pool Party Theme!

Do whatever you like! I actually think people (obvs not the LO's)will find it refreshing to go to a party in December that isn't related to the season. Happy planning
