Rory. Not a nickname, as a full name.
(Yes, people our age will always associate with Gilmore Girls and we are ok with that)

Aside from Gilmore Girls, I went to school with 2 kids named Rory, one was a boy and one was a girl. I've always seen it as unisex. Those are also the only 2 people I've met with the name.

I have only known one Rory in real life, who was a girl. Though technically she was Auroa but exclusively went by Rory.

I think it works fine for a girl. We've known a boy, a girl (also full name Aurora, but called Rory), and a dog with that name. The dog was a girl

There's a girl character named Rory in the early reader Dragon Masters series that my five year old loves. I think it's pretty unisex.

Love! I didn't watch Gilmore Girls so I wouldn't have jumped to that right away. And it's pretty unisex to me!

I didn’t watch GG. Fun name though. I only know girls with the name.

@mediagirl: I love it! I also have a friend who named her daughter Romy (full name) and I love that too.

I've never met a boy with this name. DD has a Rory girl in her class, who is adorable.

I know a Rory Kate. I guess I "know" it's more traditionally a boy's name, but to me because of her, it sounds like a girl's name. And I LOOOOOVE it (and her).

@snowjewelz: Oh my goodness...you need to! It's the perfect show to watch in the fall.

If we have another girl she would be Lorelei and go by Rory, dh would prefer just name a girl Rory, but I want both

I know tons of girl Rorys. Love it! Unique and unisex but not obnoxious

I think because of Gilmore Girls a lot of people associate it with girls now anyway. I don't know any Rorys in real life. Dr Who had a Rory that was a guy, so him and GG is what I think of when I hear Rory!

All the Rory’s I know IRL are male (1 adult and 2 kids), but there are enough pop culture girls with the name for it to be perceived as unisex, I think. I prefer it for a boy but get the sense that I’m in the minority’s on that one!

I'm really only familiar with it because of Gilmore Girls, and real life "Aurora"s who go by "Rory". I definitely don't think of it as a male name - if I saw it on paper and had to guess sex, I'd guess girl.
My only reservation, ever, about using a perceived nickname as a whole first name, is what the child will do as an adult if they ever feel the name is too informal or childish, particularly in a professional situation. Could they use a middle name? However, in a generation of Reilly, Emery, Hailey, etc., I don't think "Rory" is even a name where this would be a concern.
In short - great name

@mediagirl: It was my dad’s nickname growing up. I wanted to use it but ended up not. I did feel a little strange giving a girl my dad’s name without checking with him. Once I crossed it off my list a lot of people told me they were glad because the two R’s are hard to pronounce like Rural Juror. Idk. I still like it.

Gilmore Girls is my favorite show ever. Rory is 100% a girl name in my book as a result.

I love it. Always thought of it as unisex, even before Gilmore girls.

The only one I ever knew IRL was a guy, and I never watched Gilmore Girls. I think it would be totally cute for a girl though!

I know one Rory girl. I always thought it was more of a girls name.

I love the name Rory for a girl, it’s actually the name of our dog. I will echo what @Corduroy: said though, it can be hard for some people to pronounce. My in laws (whose native language is not English) still call our dog Lory and we’ve had her for 10 years.

@Aria: @Corduroy: I had a speech impediment in early elementary years, and Rs were really hard for me, and I was friends with the little boy I went to school with named Rory. So that's one of the reasons I was so adamant about fixing it, so I could say his name right

It’s a cute name for a girl. One of my preschool kids name was Rory but she couldn’t say it correctly and that made it more cute. But her mom was always correcting her and explaining what her name was to people.

@mediagirl: I like it for a girl! As someone who follows sports I do think of the (male) golfer Rory McIlroy. I don’t think that is a bad association or a problem. But just a counterpoint to people who only associate Rory with girls.
