All vegetarian...meat eaters can go one meal without meat. At least she isn't vegan. Cheese please!

I'd keep it vegetarian. There are a ton of interesting options out there. Is it going to be a full meal or just hors d'oeuvres?

@PurplePeony: We don't have a time yet so I don't know what meal.... but we always do full meals. Probably brunch, which will be easy to do all veggie.

My rule of thumb is, never serve food that the guest of honor can't eat, so vegetarian all the way. I even follow this rule for DD's birthday parties, except for alcohol.

I think it depends on a couple things. Is she vegetarian for moral purposes? Definitely no meat. Is she vegetarian because meat makes her sick? Definitely no meat. Is she vegetarian because she's indifferent so figures she might as well not eat it, possibly for health purposes? It might be okay to include something small with meat in it, if you think she'd be okay with it.

@swurlygurl: I know she'd be ok with it if we served meat. But she might be happier if she could actually eat all the food served.... right?

I'd do all vegetarian. Not like the guests will be missing out on anything (well, other than meat, ha!) and not like she is vegan/gluten-free (which would be a little more challenging for a crowd). I agree that guests can go one meal without meat and it is a nice gesture to the guest of honor.

Hmm I'm a vegetarian and I would want there to be veggie options that include protein but I wouldn't care otherwise! I know my friends and family eat meat so i wouldn't expect it to be all veggie at all. Like, DH eats meat so whenever we host, like have a dinner party or at our wedding we have all kinds of options. My bridal shower wasnt all veggie and I was more than okay with that.

@artbee: Hmmm... good point. It would be kinda sad if there was a delicious meat item that she couldn't eat!

I would do vegetarian. There's plenty of things you could serve with no meat.

I'd do everything no meat. One meatless meal won't ruin everyone's fun.

@NorCalWayfarer: That would just be cruel...and make for an interesting cake!

I'm mostly vegetarian (actually mostly vegan - I just do fish occasionally) and I told the host it was perfectly fine to have meat at my shower. But I agree with others that all veggie options would be nice too!

I would do all vegetarian, but depending on the time of day, do hearty vegetarian. There are tons of creative vegetarian dishes that are more than just, say, pasta with tomato sauce. As long as its plentiful, I doubt anyone would notice if there wasn't meat.
I mean, most showers I've been to have been heavy apps anyway, so cheese plate, fruit, veggie tray, maybe a pasta salad.
OR, you could do brunch... Mini quiches, yogurt parfaits, mimosa bar, etc.

I'm a vegetarian and I think it's really cool that so many people would do an all vegetarian shower for a vegetarian friend! I always think people are going to be disappointed, so I usually include a meat dish at catered parties.

I'm a vegetarian, too, and I say no meat. I think it's a very sweet and considerate gesture to throw your friend a shower and include all vegetarian options. It's nice of you to be thinking of it!

Vegetarian here, and I say no meat. There was a lot of meat at my casual, family-only shower, and it made me a little sad.

I'm a vegetarian, and i say provide meat options for the other guests!

I think it kind of depends on the host's ability to prepare vegetarian food, I know my way around a kitchen, but I still struggle to come up with sastisfying meatless meals.

Lots of veggie options, but maybe one crockpot full of meatballs for the meat-eaters!
So, just one meat item! But everything else veggie!

@artbee: unless there's an artful lox and bagel spread I find breakfast meat at brunch laying out in a buffet a little off putting anyway.
