Not sure what board to put this under. Anyhow, we had an amazing doula during our labor and delivery and am wondering if we should give her a tip? A gift? Thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I would feel weird tipping a doula. I mean, it's not like i tipped my OB or the nurses? Maybe a thank-you basket of some kind (nothing monetary) would be nice.

As a doula, I recommend sweet sentimental gifts to remember you and your baby by. I love to reminisce about "my doula babies" births.
Also Starbucks gift cards are always good, because we mainline caffeine just to survive the drive home after a birth. I've been coveting a beautiful travel mug for ages, so that's a thought too.

I was wondering this too! @Arden: Since you are a doula... My son was my second doula's very first birth! What do you think would be good gift to commemorate it? We've thought about going to a pottery studio to make her a little cast of DS's handprint or footprint with the date engraved on it.

@grizz: Oh that's awesome!
I've seen some gorgeous (and not very expensive) doula jewelry on etsy, which I love. OR, right now on Zulilly there is customizable jewelry for really good prices. You could get something with his birth date, which is also the day she became a doula (technically speaking)!

My doula is a wine fan so I gave her a nice bottle of it.

We may be in the minority but we tipped our doula and she was very appreciative. When we hired her we offered an amount at the low end of her "sliding scale" because that was as much value we could envision her being (I imagined a super fast and easy birth). After a 51 hour labor we couldn't thank her enough. We tipped her 50%, wrote her a nice letter, and printed pictures for her.

I didn't think of this, but I'm glad you brought it up! I think we will write our doula a thank-you note at the least after, and assuming we are thrilled with our experience, give her a Starbucks gift card too.
