I'm finally going to go see some of my family down South and will be traveling alone with my 2 mos year old.
Any tips? I'm nervous on how I'm going to make it alone with my stuff and baby in tow.

I haven't done it, but my mom flew with my brother at 5 weeks and she flew with me when I was a baby, with my two older siblings (all under 6). So it can be done! Good luck

Traveling with an infant is actually easier (IMO) than an older child. They don't run away from you or feel the need to move constantly!
My advice is to pack one suitcase and check it, carry on your diaper bag and the biggest purse you can find. Also, take your stroller (or car seat/stroller combo) through security and gate check it at the gate. It will be waiting for you when you get off at the other airport and it will be SO helpful to have the stroller for LO, not to mention a place to put your bags.
During the flight, nurse or feed during take off and landing and my DD slept through most flights thanks to the droning sound.
Double check which side of the plane you should be seated on (only one side has an extra air mask) and most planes have at least one bathroom now with a changing table if you need it.

Are you allowed to nurse during take-off/landing? Hubs and I might fly cross-country to visit my dad for his birthday when LO is 2 months old. I'm already starting to research it and it seems so insane!

@HabesBabe: Yes and it's a good idea anyway because sucking helps keep their ears from getting irritated by pressure changes. Also, the flight attendants can't stop you since they have to sit then, too

When I traveled alone with LO when she was 4 months old, I packed all of our belongings in 1 carry on. (I figured we weren't going out a lot so packed really light for myself). I ordered a convertible car seat and shipped it over to my parents' house and had them buy diapers for me. I strapped LO into my Ergo and just asked for a lot of help. Had the other passengers/flight attendants help put my carry on in the overhead, asked a guy to help me take it out. People are really nice when you have a baby with you!

when I travelled alone with a baby, I wanted the least amount of things possible on the plane with me. So as soon as I got to the airport, I checked in my luggage. Then I took the stroller, baby carrier, and one backpack with me to the gate. Gate checked the stroller and all I brought on the plane was the baby in a carrier and the backpack. The less you carry on the plane, the better, IMO.
If the plane isn't full, you might be able to put baby in his/her infant carseat in an empty seat beside you... Check with the staff at the gate before boarding.
At 2 months your baby will likely just nurse/feed and sleep most of the time. Any older, and I'd advise bringing toys, especially new toys for distraction and to keep them busy. I guess a toy or two wouldn't be a bad idea though, just in case. You know your LO best, so if he/she is responding well to toys already, definitely bring some along.
Ship baby gear via diapers.com so things are waiting for you when you get there.

I don't see how a flight attendant could tell you to stop nursing- seriously!!? A baby needs to eat too! I honestly wouldn't let anyone tell me I can't nurse on the plane. Familiarize yourself with tour breastfeeding rights just in case. I know here in MN a woman can breastfeed anywhere in public without covering up legally.
I've heard the same thing, feed during takeoff/landing. I think with a 2 mos old it should be okay, she'll probably sleep!

You can nurse on take off and landing even if you bought your child a seat, you don't have to have them strapped in it at all times if they are under 2 years old.
If there is an empty seat and you didn't buy one for your child, the airline is supposed to let you bring the seat onboard and you can strap it in, BUT they are not obligated to reseat people so you can sit next to the seat.
I prefer to bring on as little as possible, don't bother with a diaper bag and purse, I use a backpack and a small crossbody bag that I wear on the entire flight in case i have to stow my backpack. It has my ID, cell, cash, passports, etc.
I agree with chopsuey, most people are very accommodating to people travelling solo with a baby.
