DS wakes up really upset 90% of the time, or is happy for about 2 minutes and then starts screaming usually before I can get to him. Happens for both nap and morning wake ups. Is this normal? Anyone else experience this?

My guy did for a long time. Now we use a toddler clock. He still would wait until the light turned green, then get up and scream (though he'd been happily awake for 20-30 minutes). So every single morning, I'd say "you don't need to scream. Just say "mama" and I'll come get you." It took months, but he rarely screams now. But yeah, I never understood when people said their kids would just babble in the morning...

My kid doesn't wake-up happy either. Same as @Jess1483: -- he never woke-up babbling either. He's a super happy kid, but whether it's nap or nighttime sleep, he always wakes up, stands up in his crib, and starts crying. He's thrilled once he sees us, so I guess that's good?!

@Jess1483: What age did you start using the clock? DS is 16 months. I like the idea of the clock, and asking him to just say mama instead of screaming. I try it!
@LBee: DS is a super happy kid too, the rest of the time. It is just awful to be awakened every morning by DS's screaming, it wouldn't be so bad if he slept later than us...

@CakeLady: Right at 2, but he'd have understood a bit before that, I think. We practiced. Had him pretend to wake up, and if the clock was green, he could say "mama," and if it wasn't, he had to pretend to go back to sleep.
