I saw this, and am disgusted!! First off the babysitter should have been paying better attention, and second who plays peekaboo in a washer...seriously that guy needs a lesson in childcare pronto!!!

apparently the parents weren't present (it was a female babysitter that was right there, and her "friend", an unidentified male, that put the baby in the washer) and the parents actually never knew until they saw it on the news!!! the sitter never even told them. Apparently no charges were filed because from the video there's no visible intent to harm the baby.

ridiculous.

i guess i don't feel as strongly as others. yes, it was STUPID, but i don't think they had any intention of hurting the child. the guy was trying to play with the kid (yes, in the dumbest way possible), and his intentions weren't cruel, so i don't think he should be criminalized. if it were my child, i would be pissed/upset, and would certainly fire the baby sitter, but i would not be pressing charges. my brothers put me in the dryer when i was little! they also put my kitten in there several times. we survived!

@photojane: totally different when its a sibling versus an adult that was expected to chare for the child. I think that before I had a child, I might have thoguht the same way as you. Now, post child, I would be suing the everloving sh*t out of those people and doing whatever I could to be sure they were never near me or my child again

don't get me wrong, i think it's sad/wrong/upsetting... but i'm not a proponent of suing/pressing charges for accidents.

@photojane: It may not have been with intent to harm, but it was negligent at the very least on the part of the babysitter.

I saw this the other day and was disgusted! The previous article said it was the child's parents. Regardless of who is responsible, they should go to jail!

If I left my child in the care of a babysitter and THIS happened and I didn't know about it until I saw it on the news, I'd file charges immediately. Hire a freakin' lawyer and sue their asses - you can't NOT inform the parents of something like that!

I also think that putting a child in a washing machine/dryer "for fun" is the stupidest, dumbest, and idiotic thing anyone could ever think to do with a child and the babysitter and her friend need a serious lesson of some sort to understand that.

But, if all this happened by accident, true accident, I was informed immediately, my child was taken to a doctor and was cleared of or treated for any injuries and in the end everything was okay, including a profusely apologetic babysitter, I could possibly forgive but said babysitter would be fired on the spot and kicked to the curb.
