I'm looking for recommendations for luggage that will grow with our 2 year old son. It will mostly be used for weekend visits with grandparents, camping and a few longer trips including air travel.
I am debating a duffel, rolling backpack, small rolling suitcase (hard or soft)??? I'm not necessarily expecting him to be able to maneuver it all on his own but hopefully he can help more as he gets bigger.

A couple years ago I bought a small carry-on size Samsonite roller for myself and LO loves playing with it and has become his defacto bag. It's sturdy enough for him to lay on and he can push it around.

We have a Skip Hop suitcase for B, and will be getting one for W for Christmas. We actually bought it mostly because he was suitcase obsessed and we wanted something he could roll around the house, but we also use it for weekend trips. I'd say it's going to be too small for anything longer than about 3 days, but I've been happy with it.

We tend to be away from home one weekend a month - I have a duffel bag that both of my boys share for those trips. But over the summer we were flying a few times, so I bought them each a carry-on spinner suitcase, hard cover. I really like the suitcases for them and I think they will be useful for them for a lot longer.

I travel with my son a fair amount (flying to my family) and since 2 we’ve used this. I still have to pack our main suitcase (clothes and whatnot) but this is now his carryon with his stuff. Snacks, toys, lovey, iPad, etc. He absolutely LOVES pulling it around the airport and it holds quite a bit.
I love that it keeps him happy and that now I can just pack a small carryon for myself and call it a day (vs one big carryon for both of us that I had to lug).

Maybe he will outgrow it in a year or two but for that price point I am ok with it! It is super cute and he loves rolling it around the house so far. Haha. You can probably get it for even cheaper on a Carter's sale (Skip Hop is now part of Carter's and Osh Kosh)!

We got a character suitcase, it was a Lightening McQueen one and boy, did it cause a ton of conversations in the airport. My son was the mayor walking around with that thing.
I let him pack it himself, and he usually loaded it up with toys.

We have the small PBK soft side rolling luggage for our kids and they love it. Each kid has their own and they enjoy pushing them, and they fit enough for quite a few days since their clothes are tiny still! They are 5 and almost 3.

@wrkbrk: Didn't realize Skip Hop was now part of Carters. We have their backpack and DS loves it.
@HappyBaker: Thank you! I was worried the PBK suitcase (even the small) might be too much for him to pull but sounds like it works for your almost 3 year old.

@Bluemasonjar: I mean I'm not sure if he would pull it through an entire airport - but he also would probably refuse to walk that far anyway haha. It's definitely manageable though and he's also on the short side!

@HappyBaker: Ohh I have no illusions that he will do much of the pulling/walking at this point but was thinking it was something he could grow into. We haven''t flown with him in over a year so it will be interesting to see how he does with the whole process!
