@Tanjowen: Yes, we dealt with the same thing! I even had to hold his hand while he fell asleep. Finally we re-sleep trained, and it got a million times better!!

I remember a few times like this after travel around that age. I think we just did CIO with checks if needed at that age. We would have a few brutal bed times then be back to normal.

My daughter went through something similar a few months ago. I think she was having nightmares! Our solution was to get a nightlight and leave it on all night. We also have one of the music and lights things on the side of her crib, and sometimes turning that on seemed to help. We really kinda had to re-sleep train her, too. We would lie her down and say, "Good night, I love you, I will see you in the morning." and then if she cried for 15 minutes, one of us would go in and rub her back for a bit, do some shushing, and then say the same thing and go back out. Then we'd wait ten minutes, then we'd go in every 5 but without the talking. It only took a few nights of this before she could go down again without a struggle. We left the night-light, though, because it does seem to soothe her and help her through this MOTN wakings.
