We're going to start when she's about 2 so she has them under her belt before this summer. she *LOVES the water, so i hope it's a good investment

We started in January of this year when DS was 13 months and continued through August. We swam with him, but he learned things like going under water, reaching for things, jumping into water, floating, doing "strokes". We'll be going back to it in the next month or two.

ETA: we took lessons at an aqua-tots and love it there. Our local county pool lessons were in a cold pool and the "instructors" were just high school kids and they didn't do a very good job of teaching the young toddlers anything substantial. It was more water play than anything.

We did swim lessons with LO was 6 months and I'm going with 'waste of time'. We got in the water and sang songs. The same songs every week. I could've done that for free in the bath.

We always planned on it, but my LO is such a fish, I didn't think the lessons were necessary since she was beyond the basics by 2. She already blows bubbles, ect. So we will just take her swimming this winter to keep her used to the water.

I looked into it for LO but around here the classes start at age 3 unless we did private swim lessons. So I guess we're waiting.

We just started at 17 months. The first class was mostly getting used to the water. The teacher said they will work on skills as the weeks progress. Mostly I wanted something to tire her out as the weather gets colder and it's tougher to go outside, and LO likes it. It seems like the 2-3 age probably learns more actual skills though if that's your main interest.
