@808Love: Where in Tokyo will you be staying? How old is your LO? Also when will you be there. Depending on the season time of year you are there there are various festivals and events you can try to go to.
Will you be only staying in Tokyo your whole time? Or do you plan on traveling to some other areas of Japan too? DH and I usually really only stayed one or two days in Tokyo before we would move on to another part of Japan.
I'm not sure there is really much in Tokyo for younger kids except Disney as you mentioned, and maybe the Ghibli museum (actually in Mitaka not Tokyo). There are lots of good places to eat though!

@Matcha Latte: Yes, we're doing Best of Tokyo this year. We'll likely go to other places in Japan in future years. We'll be there cherry blossom time so we'll stay in Ueno (parks, zoo, museum etc). Then Grand Hyatt Tokyo on the subway line to visit Kidzania *children's museum on steroids**and then where-ever. Then some convenient shopping near the hotel or off line. I kind of need help in this area or we will just wander. I would love a mall with some kind of kids activities. We are doing a lot of things centered around our 5 year old but we are fine with that. Thinking maybe the ramen museum as our treat. Staying away from Hello Kitty land. LO refuses to go to the bathhouses...our modesty lesson was taught all too well at home. Then we are going to stay in Hilton Tokyo Bay for a DisneySea/Disneyland fix. So glad we bought a bunch of yen and all of the tickets a little while ago when the yen was a bit higher than now. We want to go to the Dog Cafe so LO can walk and play with a whole bunch of dogs. Yes, the food----mmmm that's what we are looking for---any clues how you found the good stuff?

I'm in Tokyo, join Tokyo Mothers Group Facebook page and ask away! There's lots of things for kids. Asobono play area by Tokyo Dome is great but can get pricey, Tama zoo or Zoorasia are better than Ueno zoo but further out and not as convenient. An amazing park is kodomo no kuni, which is huuuge and great for picnicking, has animals, row boats, tons of playgrounds. Highly recommend it.

We haven't gone yet with our LOs, but we went to visit family before we were married! Following to see what suggestions for taking littles are. Have a wonderful time!

@gracecat: I think I will probably check out Asobono if we get antsy. Thanks for showing us the way! It's pretty close to us. Also just found out this morning Ueno Zoo is the zoo where the (older) children's book Faithful Elephants took place.....
Sad!!
@erinpye: So much to do there! I'm a Disney theme park fan so I definitely need a full week, just for Tokyo. I've been dying to do Kidzania forever. LO is finally old enough, according to my standards. Hint...reserve/book online for Wednesdays- English day, 4 months to the day in advance when they open it up. Everything else books up 3 months in advance.

@erinpye:
Winner, winner, Tokyo dinner. We all had an incredibly great time at Ueno Zoo, KIdzania, and Disney. We also went to a super nice pool, playgrounds and the Dogheart Cafe because LO loves dogs. I got to shop, go to the art museum (Monet!!) and found the dollar store. DH Found his Onsen, bonsai shop and got to try tons of unusual snacks. If you go to Disney, we accidentally found the best sushi in the area at Ikspari fourth floor. It was so good we went there two days in a row. It is called Tsukiji Tama...? It was sooooo good! Everything melted in my mouth and the sale was awesome, as well. I'm in love with Japan!!
If anyone plans to do a trip, I recommend 5 years old. They are still free in most hotels and subways and have a blast at Kidzania.
