I accrue 1 2/3 day of vacation every month, 1 personal day each year, 1 1/4 sick days a month, 11 paid holidays and the office is closed between Christmas Day and New Year's Day. It works out to about 6+ weeks all together (in my first year of employment - rates will go up after 2 years!)

I get 30 days vacation with the option to roll 10 over into the following year, 15 paid holidays and unlimited paid sick leave. It is mandatory to use your vacation days! I don't work during leave, my employer frowns very heavily on that.

31 days because I've been at the company for 10+ years. In addition to that, we get 7 paid holidays.
I try to take all of my vacation days. I do work during some of them, but when I know I need a break, I very much focus on taking that break.

25 days paid leave plus public holidays (can't remember how many there are). Also, because it's a college, we also get 2 weeks off at Christmas. This is in addition to sick leave, parental leave, maternity leave, compassionate leave etc. No, I don't feel compelled to check email while I'm off! I'm not that important

I get 3 weeks.
I usually continue to check email while on vacation.

20 days/160 hours of vacation, we can roll over up to 240 hours total and anything over that is use-or-lose. We also get a yearly performance award if we perform well and can take it as either cash or time off, I always choose the time and get an extra week. I try not to use all my leave, though, because it's the only way we can get paid during maternity leave. Still not sure if we're going to have a second baby but I want to keep some time in the bank just in case!
If I'm in the US, I'll check email occasionally while out of the office, but I'm not allowed to do that from abroad. Fine with me!

128 hrs per year PTO (so 14-16 days depending on how you take it. We work 9 hr days M-R.) and every other Friday off.
ETA- I don't work on vacation.

I started a new job last August; this year I get five weeks PTO. But I'm never sick, so I will likely get to use most of them as vacation. I'm excited because I only got two weeks at my last job

I work 12 hour shifts 3 days a week and get 6 vacation days a year, so i guess it works out to two weeks off.

I am a SAHM and I have a home business so... 0. lol My husband gets 3 weeks now. I think 4 weeks will be ideal. 1 week or so for anniversary. 1 week for family vacation. 1 week for family events/special occasions. 1 week for staycations.

I'm a teacher, so my vacations are when the kids are off. We do get up to three "personal days" a year (which do not roll over) and, I think, nine sick days (which do roll over).
My DH used to work for a very small company with no defined vacation policy. It did not work so well there, as the boss would often give three or four day weekends with little or no notice, and then feel like that was "time off", although there was no real opportunity to actually take a vacation with a half day's notice. Requests to take time off with advance notice were pretty much always granted, but not without some attitude. It wasn't totally healthy.

None now that I'm teaching. But in the banking world, I had almost 20 days PTO, but that was vacation and sick time combined.

- 4 weeks annual leave (compulsory Christmas closure, I usually work from home doing mail pick up/accounts). Its paid, and we also get 17.5% leave loading.
-11 days sick leave. If you don't take it during the year it gets paid out end of year with annual leave.
-All public holidays (New Year, Australia Day, Labour Day, Easter Break, Anzac Day, Queens Bday, Melbourne Cup and Xmas Day/Boxing Day).
-Rostered Days Off (usually one per 4 weeks if you've worked 40 hour weeks) they almost always before or after a public holiday to make an extra long weekend.
We work for ourselves, so basically if we need emergency time off we take it... hubby has been running around like crazy for me shuttling DD back and forth to grannies as I've been ill, and also leaves for a few hours if I need to go to the doctor.

10 paid a year and they roll over. Plus weekends, holidays and summer

I get 11 vacation days and 5 sick days, but when I hit three years in October I'll get another week's vacation.
I definitely don't work on vacation days.

3 weeks vacation that don't roll over, 8 personal days that do, and ~5 holiday comp days (salaried retail works most holidays- New Years day, Fourth of July etc)

I'm a teacher so I just work the school year, plus I have 4 "personal days" and 6 sick days per year.
DH gets 4 weeks vacation, plus the 9 NYSE days off, plus unlimited sick days but he tends to wfh when sick.

I get 8 weeks plus holidays. I use it all ( it doesn't roll over ) and will generally respond to emails while on vacation.

3 weeks. No work! One week of time away from work for a paid conference of my choice.
apricot / 477 posts
2-4 weeks depending on how many hours I've worked.
We also work. 40 hour weeks for about a month over Christmas break but end up with tons of days off since they try and extend our shifts to 10-12 hours.

3 weeks... not enough time according to me. Burnout is pretty real in my field.
My DH also gets 3 weeks but the culture is not to actually take it. So he normally takes one real week of vacation and then a few long weekends
We both check email during vacation

I opted out of vacation and sick days at my job to get paid more an hour! However I know most people do 14 days of vacation where I work (hospital) and they can break up the time if they choose.

We get 10 company holidays and I get 20 flex days (combo of sick + vacation). We're allowed to roll over 5 days per year and sometimes we get a few extra days for the next year as a bonus. I check emails while I'm off but don't usually do work.
DH has a super flexible job with no fixed number of days off which seems amazing but he actually takes far less time off that I do.
persimmon / 1165 posts
I have 25 PTO days/year, it'll bump up to 30 next year.
We also get about 22 paid holiday days off each year as well.

I have 25 PTO days (vacation and sick time) in addition to a handful of holidays. I try not to work if I am on vacation. If I'm sick but working from home, I only use PTO if I don't put in a full day's work.
Tomorrow I think I'll be staying home because DS is sick. I'll probably use PTO because he needs to much attention to actually get work done. I will definitely be checking email and probably join a conference call.

23 days + all bank holidays + unlimited sick hours (40 of which are protected by the state).
I also get 3 personal days and 1 extra vacation day this year because it's a milestone year, so this year I get 27 days off + holidays + unlimited sick hours.
pomegranate / 3244 posts
I accumulate 10 hrs of vacation/month (so 15 days/year) and 8 hrs of sick time/month, both of which roll over up to a certain amount (but I'd have to check the HR website to see what that is). I also get 2 personal days which don't roll over (so I use those first). My workplace is also closed for all major holidays, and a few extra here & there (so ~12-13 total).
I haven't taken any vacation yet (been here less than a year) but when I do I certainly won't be checking my email My boss is also very relaxed, and will only make me use vacation/sick leave if I'm gone for 1/2 day or more. If I have to run to the Drs. for an hour or two (or any other errand) I don't have to claim anything, which is nice (and obviously not something to be abused).

@mrbee: I'm a teacher, so I have the summer... but I'm usually working during the summer.
DH gets 8 weeks a year. He hasn't been able to use any yet, as he just changed careers in the same field. But, he will once we're more established.

I get unlimited sick time (because I'm salary), just can't abuse it.
Then I have 10 vacation days, so 2 weeks.

I freelance so I get 0. I have taken plenty of time off though over the last year. I only work part-time so I just finagle my schedule to make it work.
At my most recent salaried job, we had unlimited paid time off, but most people barely took any time at all. I only took one true vacation in my 1.5 years working there. I worked my butt off to get things set up so I could actually unplug during my vacation.

30 days pto. Just started a new job though so no clue if it will be total relaxation time or working vacation time!

I work about 20 hours a week and get 7.5 days (60 hours) being 4 years in at work- not per year, it takes me about 14 months to get my time refilled. No sick days, it's just PTO for whatever I need to use it on.
