My 2 year old is doing well using the potty, but I'm not ready to switch her over to big girl undies full time. I've used Pampers and Huggies training pants, but am hoping to find some cheaper options...what brand of pull ups/training pants do you recommend? She refuses to wear regular diapers now and the extra cost is killing me!

We never did pull-ups because I knew my son would just associate them like diapers and go in them. We bought Gerber cloth training pants - they have extra padding in the crotch area so if there's an accident, it helps to absorb some of the liquid. Doesn't absorb everything, but it contains a lot of the mess.

My DS used the gerber cloth training pants too. Target has some on clearance now. I just left a bucket of soap water in the bath tub and whenever he wet them during the 3dat potty training process I would drop them in the soap bucket and throw them in with a small load of laundry each night. My DS was pooped trained awhile before this though so I never had to deal w poop on them but friends have said they would just use the cloth diaper sprayer with poopy messes.

I actually came on to ask about something similar. What kind of training pants did you use? We're not ready for underwear either but I want to have something she can take off and put on easily at daycare, she's mostly just associating potty and peeing still. Are pull ups/training pants less absorbent?

@Mrs. Carrot: I have been using Huggies and Pampers and yep...they're just as absorbent and feel like diapers. The only thing that's different is that they're easy for kids to pull up and down so they can use the potty.

Heads up, grossness ahead: we have had accidents of both kinds in undies here. But it's not that big a deal. With poop accidents I just turn them inside out over the toilet and shake as much off as possible. Then put them IMMEDIATELY in the washing machine and run a quick rinse. Then they come clean no problem.
