Our son has been happily sleeping in his crib set night time for quite a while now, but I can't get him to nap in it! He'll only really nap in his bouncy chair or while held...
Any tips for getting him to nap in his crib?

I've read that it is easiest to try with the first nap of the day and then stick with tried and true methods for the rest of the day to prevent overtiredness if the first nap doesnt work out. Do you do a little pre-nap routine? Maybe you can do a modified bedtime routine before his nap and then place him in the crib?

Mine just went from only napping in the baby carrier to taking every nap in her crib. I didn't really do anything, she just decided she was ready at 5.5 months. Maybe the heat wave helped? Neither of us felt like snuggling!

LO has had the same issues, I've never been able to get her to nap in her crib...until today (VICTORY!!).
I downloaded a baby scheduling app on my iphone to keep track of when I was having the best luck at getting a nap out of her (LO is NOT a good napper) and realized that around 9:30 she was getting fussy and 10 is when she'd fall asleep in her bouncy chair or swing. So at 9:45 I swaddled her, put her in her crib, turned the white noise on and gave her a paci. She fell asleep, like, NBD. Granted, she only slept 37 minutes, (but thats pretty standard, I haven't quite figured out how to keep her asleep) but its a baby step and I'll take it!

Mine only napped in the swing for a loong time and it was making both LO and myself unhappy. I just jumped in with both feet and when I saw he was tired, I closed his blinds, then did milk and story time. Then, laid him in his crib. I did CIO and while the first day was rough, he slept. The second day was much better, and by the third day he knew was to do. It has really made us both so much happier!

I try to get baby to nap in her crib at least once or twice a day. I accomplish it by rocking her down in our glider chair, and then I lightly set her into her crib once she's asleep. That works as long as her paci stays in. Sometimes she really fights being rocked down though, and that's when we end up doing carseat naps. I plop her in her carseat, and rock her in there until she falls asleep. I wish I could get my baby to put herself to sleep in her crib, but she's only done that on very rare occasions.

Thanks for all the tips ladies! I'll try putting him down in the crib for his first nap tomorrow. We don't really have a nap time routine... For bedtime we do a bath (every other day), massage, nurse, put in crib and it works really well. He sleeps through til at least 5 most of the time- often later. What do you guys do for a nap routine?

My LO didn't nap in her crib until 8 months. She just refused to, and would scream and scream and scream. I figured I didn't care where she slept as long as she did. And then one day we tried the crib again and she was fine with it.

Wow, sounds like a lot of us have swing nappers here. I swing napped my oldest until 8 months (while he slept in his crib at night); and am swing napping (or wherever!) my youngest as well and will transition him to his crib at night soon... Once we move my oldest out of his crib! I do remember starting with napping as well like everyone else here. I did CIO...not fun but paid off greatly with my oldest.

Our nap routine just involves snuggling with a lovey while I read 2-3 books. Then LO gets swaddled and I put him in his crib with white noise. It usually takes 10 minutes. If he is super tired or fussy I skip the books!

I just did a diaper change, put him in his sleep sack, read a short book, nursed and put him down in his crib. It worked! He's been asleep for about 20 mins....
(also, he slept from 8:30pm to 8:30am last night! He woke up at 4:30AM, but I went to pee before going to get him and by the time I finished he'd put himself back to sleep!!!)
fingers crossed this good sleep trend continues
