I'm not a Katie fan, but it's on now and she has a mom who is meeting the recipient of her daughter's heart donation and is getting ready to listen to the heart. Omg. Cry, cry, cry.
Would you want to meet the organ recipient?

I received a kidney from my dad which is a different situation but I'd like to think that I would want to meet the organ recipient if I was ever in that situation. Being able to see a part of your love one live on in someone else has got to be such a bittersweet feeling. I know for my dad to be able to see me thriving on a daily basis and knowing that he saved my life is something that we are both grateful for everyday. A lot of parents aren't able to give their children the gift of life.

I just read about a local family that donated their young daughters organs and it showed the mom with her mom with her ear to the mans chest that received the heart.
I have personally worked with a patient who was an organ donor in our ICU. His older sister had passed away a year or two before from the same condition and had donated her organs so when the time came the family wanted to do the same. The sound his mom made when they had the conversation was a sound I will never forget. A sound so full of pure grief. But in the end they proceeded on with the donation. Usually after a year if both donor and recipient want to meet they can (they wait to make sure the recipient is doing well). I think they met their daughter' recipients.
After that experience I pretty much bawl at things like that.

My friend had to make the decision to donate her mom and sisters organs http://www.thellf.org/extraordinary-people/personal-stories/stefanie-beale
Another friend received several organs.
What an amazing and brave gift!
