Omg I saw that.
No words. Can't say I'm surprised anymore.

I'm with @Mrs. Pen: it's sad that not even this surprises me anymore. And unfortunately, if people still like him after other stuff he's said, this probably won't faze them. Disgusting.

I saw one comment from a Trump supporter that said: "This just makes me feel sympathy for him. All guys talk like this with their buddies, I would hate for my 'locker room' talk to be broadcast." Wtf? I sincerely hope not "all guys" talk like this?!?
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@MrsSCB: "all guys"? Really? My husband has never and would never speak like that. Ever. In fact, the majority of men I know never would.
They're delusional.

We are watching this now on CNN. The tape, plus his non-apology, are both so appalling. I would say that this is the end for Trump, however, I am really afraid that he will use this bad press to double down on his bid for the election; that he will use this to again call for armed violence if he loses the election. He has stated in the past that he believes the election is being rigged in support of Clinton, and that the "2nd Amendment people" should take her out. That terrifies me!
I have said it before, and I will say it again, I don't understand who anyone could vote for him. As a Canadian, and member of the Armed Forces, we really rely upon a stable American Presidency. I can't imagine anything more volatile and worse for Foreign Relations than a Trunp Adminstration.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@Mrs. Pen: Right? Same, I cannot imagine any man I know speaking like that!
pomelo / 5258 posts
It's interesting watching it on the news as they dance around saying the p-word. I felt awkward about writing it above but I think hearing the cleaned up version makes it easier to ignore.

I'm not even surprised or shocked. But I am deeply saddened that so many people continue to support him.
@MrsSCB: @Mrs. Pen: My husband would never speak this way about a woman and neither would my dad, FIL, uncles, grandfathers, etc. I don't know how people can continue to make excuses for him.

@Astro Bee: "I can't imagine anything more volatile and worse for Foreign Relations than a Trunp Adminstration." this! I couldn't agree more.

Wow that's an incredible recording. I'd say it would kill his chances, but it feels like he's the Teflon Candidate.
Did want to chime in and say that tons of guys talk like this, especially when they are younger. Back in high school, you would hear stuff like this in the locker room all the time.
I think that Trump just never grew up. In so many ways, he acts like he's still in high school.
pomegranate / 3127 posts
@MrsSCB: ummm, no, no guys in my family talk like this, and I'm pretty sure my close friends who are guys don't either. The people I know who probably do are pretty obvious... they don't have woman friends because you can't be friends with someone you see as an object.

I just saw this on CNN, and I was just sitting there with my mouth hanging open. I was not shocked that these words came out of Donald Trump's mouth, but I was shocked that this is a story coming out about a presidential candidate. What he said is horrible, and the "apology" that he issued is just bizarre. Calling it "locker room banter" does not make it better. Yes, some men may talk like this, but they are not running for the presidency of the United States. My husband and most of the men I know do not talk about women like this.

So effing SICK. I'm so ready for this election to be over with so Donald Trump can go away.

This being "locker room banter" = exactly why we're living in a culture that condones sexual violence
pomelo / 5258 posts
@mrbee: Thanks for chiming in. I'be heard many guys say they would or want to do vulgar things to women. But do regular guys you know actually say they go up to women and do the vulgar things without consent? I've never heard guys talk like THAT but maybe they do.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@Corduroy: Oh no definitely not. I just meant the parts where Trump and Bush objectify women and talk about what they'd like to do to them. I actually took the parts where Trump talked about the kissing and grabbing as exaggerations, because do people actually do that stuff? Either way, it's beyond horrific.
pomelo / 5258 posts
@mrbee: Thanks for clarifying. There are guys that walk around doing things like that to women. I wouldn't expect bragging about it to friends would be too popular.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@winniebee: The two incidents that have really hurt him (I think) are when he attacked the Gold Star parents, and also the Alicia Machado comments! Maybe this will be incident #3.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
The fact that he is brushing this off like its nothing is even worse than the fact that he said it. But the worst part is I dont even think this will hurt him. I was reading the transcript while feeding by baby girl and it made me sick.
coconut / 8472 posts
Ugh, the only thing worse than a presidential candidate who speaks this way are supporters who rationalize it.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
Men talk like this among other men. Trump is a rare breed that says some of this stuff in mixed company. Even Trump out Trumped himself this time. If we thought censored Trump was bad now we know it gets worse. I wonder what he thinks he could do to women as President? I mean that is a bigger deal than being a star.

He's like a misogynistic character out of a early 20th century drama.

Hearing this made me physically ill, and hearing women on CNN defending him makes me so angry. How people can continue to support him is beyond me.

As someone who grew up republican, I saw and liked the Republican Party for "family values" and the morals they've upheld (or at least projected). In the last few years I haven't identified as a republican, partly because I see through that propaganda.. but how can a party that uses morals and family values as a party platform support a candidate like this?! I'm absolutely speechless not that he's an asshat cause I already knew that, but that he somehow managed to win popular vote with republicans.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@avivoca: I actually tuned in to CNN to see what that woman (Kaleigh something) would say. As long as you apologize, you can be forgiven. 1) Forgiving, and electing president, are two very very different things. And 2) how far does that logic go? If we had video of him ACTUALLY doing those things, or worse, but he said he was sorry, is that cool then?
I'm getting kind of ragey. The plus side is that my DH has finally been pushed over the edge to vote for Hillary. He hates her but finally cannot deny that he's so much worse. (He wasn't going to vote at all before).

@Foodnerd81: I am a Christian, and yes, you can be forgiven. But he's not repentant. He thinks he is above the law, above common decency, and he's going to continue to do these things because he thinks (and knows) that he can and nobody will stop him.
I don't know how I'll be able to look my daughters in the eye if he gets elected. At least I will be able to tell them that I did my part in trying to stop him.

Does "locker room banter" count when you're a 58 year old? What a joke.
clementine / 995 posts
The thing with his "apology" is that he didn't actually apologize for what he said, and he didn't admit any wrongdoing. His statement said, "I apologize if anyone was offended."

I just can't anymore. I am so thankful my children are too young for me to have to explain this election to them. and even more thankful I am not teaching 4th grade social studies anymore. I literally have no idea how I could possibly cover this subject in an "unbiassed" way. I am sick to my stomach over this. How is this real life?

@NCSUchick27: basically I'm sorry you're so over sensitive.

@ShootingStar: yep especially the female supporters. One of which is my mom blowing it off as locker room talk. I am deeply ashamed! We were not raised to be okay with that, my father would never speak like that nor would my husband.

@MrsSCB: I've been around predominantly men for the past 15 years (aviation college, then a career in the cockpit which is about 95% men and also in the military which has even less women.. I am always the lone woman in a crew of a dozen or a class of 30). There are men who speak like this even in the company of women, but they tend to be younger guys in their 20s and below.. SOMETIMES 30s. Rarely if ever in the middle aged crowd. Trump was what, 50-60 yrs old when he said these things? I can't imagine any of the men in this age bracket I've flown with who would say these things... they're just mature for this type of "locker room banter." And I've certainly worked with many, many men of any age who would never utter such things even with their own buddies. So no, it's not "all guys talk like this." That FB guy just sounds like a die hard trump supporter.
In any case, I'm not sure if it is even just locker room banter. I think he really did do those things. And proudly too.
clementine / 935 posts
If (and this is a huge if) it's actually common locker room banter, than that doesn't excuse it. It just proves that Trump is symptomatic of a much larger problem in our culture.
Which, I think, is actually a recurring theme of his candidacy. This country is a lot more sexist, racist, and generally bigoted than I ever thought possible.
