Has anyone taken anything at the onset of a cold and it helped?
I am just now starting to feel yucky (congested and sore throat) and was wondering if I ran to CVS at lunch and grabbed something would it actually help??

OJ and two Advil before bed always made me feel better. I've also taken Emergen-C with decent results. If anything, it made my symptoms less severe.

No advice, just commiseration. Started for me night before last, and got bad last night
I actually took a zyrtech this morning to see if it was maybe allergies rather than a cold and I feel like I'm feeling a little better… so I'm hoping thats all it is for me? Time will tell I guess.

@heartonastring: what's oil of oregano? Where would you get it? You drink it?

Same boat as you! Yesterday the back of my throat and nasal airway felt so swollen and gross, then I had just a terrible night of sleep!
I hope you get over it quickly! For a sore throat, gargling apple cider vinegar with warm water works wonders- but it is absolutely disgusting.

@heartonastring: funny you mention that... My microbiology professor shared a study that shows that oil of oregano may cure norovirus!

@Mrs. Pen: Yeah, it's a powerful, natural anti microbial. Many hospitals are using it to clean and prevent the spread of things like C. Difficile.
@Mamaof2: You can get it at the health food store. It's pricey but lasts quite awhile and works, so it's worth it to me! It usually comes in a small bottle with an eye-dropper. I put four drops under my tongue and just leave them there for about 20 seconds. Then, I take a small sip of water, swish it around my mouth and gargle a little bit. I do that about four times a day when I feel a cold coming on. Make sure if you take it that you take probiotics along with it (not at the same time though...stagger them through the day) because it can kill your good gut bacteria too.
