So I usually don't like to post things like this, but. WTF. How do you plead not guilty when you obviously killed those children?!

Hey, I read People online every day as part of my news!
I agree though. She clearly killed those kids. It makes me wonder if her lawyers aren't going to pull an insanity defense.
Edit: After actually reading the article, it's very clear that is what her lawyers plan on doing (insanity defense, unfit to stand trial).

So so so tragic.
On a separate note, it's too bad that Law & Order is no longer on the air... I can see the cold open scene now.

It definitely sounds like they're going with the insanity defense.
And I think, regardless of the evidence, unless you get a good plea bargain, people enter a plea of not-guilty, even when they obviously are, because there's always that slight chance they can get off.

They're going to go for insanity. I figured that's what her lawyers would do anyway because of some of the quotes from her friends and family about her acting differently and losing a lot of weight.
I want her to be insane because my mind can't even fathom a sane person doing something so horrendous.
@mrbee: SVU is still on! I bet they will find a way to work this story line in.

omg, what sad news for an already tragic story. the mom was a part of my local parenting listserv and taught art classes at a nearby park. i think about that family all the time.

I haaaate when people plead insanity. Like really people, if you get mad and kill someone you are not insane. You made a mistake, although a horrible one, it was a mistake and that does not make you legally insane. That irks me so much.
I know some people really are, but what are the chances everyone who kills people are actually insane? Uhg.

Just because she pleads "not guilty" doesn't mean that she is. I'd rather our legal system where there is a presumption of innocence requiring the government to prove its case "beyond a reasonable doubt rather" than one where the State presumes guilt and the accused must prove otherwise.
That said, she will have to prove that she was mentally incapacitated that she couldn't literally understand what she was doing when she committed her crime (under NY law anyway). Either way, I don't think this is easy street or that she is getting off easy in any way.
This is a sad case all around.

It's scary to think what the distant future holds with all these crazy "incidents" occurring now days!! Yikes!

Keep in mind that even if her insanity plea works, that doesn't mean she gets to just go home! She'll be probably locked in a secure "hospital" for the insane. It's just a step-up from regular prison I think, but I don't think it's that much fun.
