Not sure if someone else has posted this but here is a link to a story addressing the other side of this story-- the parents. It's a pretty crazy story. Even in their defense of the situation, they seem really "off" to me. If they genuinely wanted to keep their son, nothing would have gotten in the way.

So F'd up. Between the guy being a pedo with like 22 convicted assaults and this:
They expected the surrogacy agency to give them a refund and find a solution.
So they didn't want to pay a young mother for carrying their children and they wanted their son to somehow disappear......so, so F'd up. The fact he could say such things in an interview and think he was somehow making the story better, he's got some serious issues. Their poor daughter, I'm glad their son isn't with them and I hope their friends and family keep a close eye on the little girl.

@kml636: I completely agree. I know people can be rehabilitated but they seem to screwy in other ways that it's hard to believe.

I have so many questions to things that aren't made clear in any article I've read.
- he's a pedofile. There aren't any restrictions on a convicted sex offender and surrogacy?
- what ARE the thia surrogacy laws?
- who dictates the pregnancy schedule/appointments/testing? What kind of testing and ultrasounds are offered in Thailand?

@Maysprout: I agree. I think what happened is that they made it clear they didn't want their son, so the surrogate said she would take the child, child was born and parents started to change their minds but the surrogate insisted she keep the baby. All of their reasons for having to leave the country would seem legit but they also never tried to get him back. I think they feel "called out" and came up with this story of being threatened by the surrogate. That is so hard to believe. She is likely a very poor woman in the food service (I believe. ) It's not like she is head of The Mob.

@simplyfelicity: Yeah it seems they would have made some effort to get their son back in previous months if they had really wanted him. I have no idea why they wouldn't have. And from their own story they said they were happy with the idea she would keep him because they didn't want him.
Not only that but they didn't want to pay her for surrogacy because he had down syndrome and 'find a solution' since she wouldn't abort him. It's not like they said I'm not sure we can handle a baby with downs, they went crazy about it. I can see how the surrogate would feel like she could be endangering the baby or putting him in an extremely unloving and unfortunate position if she handed him over. So even if she did threaten all I can think is good for her.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: It seems a lot of surrogacy is somewhat unregulated in Thailand, so IMO if they're going that route they have to be prepared. To demand a healthy child is just crazy, it's not how pregnancy works, maybe it could have been sorted out with early tests or maybe it wasn't noticeable till later.....but even if they did no tests, the parents still have a responsibility for a living, breathing child.

@simplyfelicity I complete agree with what you said about them being "called out". I think that was the whole reason they said they felt threatened. It's really the only logical explanation for all of the actions they took (like not renewing their visa and not contacting authorities).

This story makes me wonder how many pedophiles go to Thailand and hire surrogates. If there is any industry that should be regulated; this is one. Sickening.

This whole thing is so horrible and this interview did not help the biological parents at all! Saying they would've aborted because "everyone wants a healthy son" is sure to enrage a lot of the public. And then that the surrogate kept the boy because boys are prized in Asia? Really? The woman already has her own children! This surrogate is just going to get more support from all this!
What really got me was when he was asked about the risk of him sexually assaulting his daughter, he said "I CANNOT do it again". Not "I WILL NOT". Maybe it's a dialect thing, but I didn't like that at all! Ick.
I would want both babies if I was the surrogate too!
