As I am starting to buy more CDs, I've joined a few BST groups and looking online. Is it just me, or is anyone else weirded out by buying used diapers? I mean, I'm more likely to trust an HB'er or FB group, but get really grossed out about descriptions and pictures of stains. Wanting to build up my stash so I'll CD more often, but it's getting expensive (and I only like certain kinds).
Someone tell me to just get over it?

I figure it's the same as buying used baby clothing...at one point in time poo/pee got on those pieces of clothing, right?

@shopaholic: I have a few I bought off of a local moms group page but otherwise mine are new. I hear you on it being a little weird but I think you can get some great deals from people who changed third minds about CD and want to sell their stash.

Amazingly enough, all of our BG 4.0's are still in great shape - no stains or anything, just elastic stretching out on the legs. Now the inserts are absolutely disgusting. So I guess what I'm saying is, I would probably buy used shells that are in good shape, but would prefer new inserts.

I bought used diapers. None of them had stains. I also was able to get a bunch of prepped prefolds that had never been used. Guess it doesn't bother me!

I don't have a problem with it, but DH does and vetoed buying used ones. Are you signed up for cottonbabies emails? They do a seconds sale every few months where you can get them for super cheap, and I think it has been awhile since the last one.

My husband is weirded out by it and I am on the fence so I don't think I will go out of my way to buy them used. The one place I went that had used ones in store had them displayed in such a disheveled fashion that it didn't make it easier to wrap my mind around it.

I've done it multiple times. You can add bleach to keep kill yeast and germs.

I've bought used ones, but I triple wash them and run a bleach cycle (and sun them to remove stains) before use.

stripping my diapers made them look brand new (dawn and bleach), so i would buy used, but i just bought all BG and flips, mostly from sales!

I've bought used. Like @Freckles: said, most baby clothes get something yucky on them anyways. I've never received any that looked suspicious.

I personally have only bought new or like new. My reason is because I don't know when I will get pregnant and so I don't want used diapers in a box that is stored away. Thinking of that kinda grosses me out. I know they are clean but I would want them stain-free before putting it in a box. Also, I feel bad buying used diapers when there are moms out there that could use them at this moment. As for my backup plan if I can't get pregnant (that I don't think about often), is that I can pass it off to a friend or resell the new cloth diapers.
If I had a LOs, I could definitely see myself buying used to save money. You can strip them to remove stains or smells. I'm all about saving money. I buy used stuff all the time to get a good discount on a product.

No, I wouldn't. When you buy used, you're POTENTIALLY buying someone elses's problems, and if you want to return them, you often can't, especially to the manufacturer.
I don't think it's a problem to buy used clothing in general, but you're looking for absorbency and function and I am not comfortable taking that risk with dipes.

@bluestriped bee: I agree if I buy used it's mostly Like New condition (or EUC). Also I never bother to really buy inserts because the absorbency does change after use even if there aren't stains.

Except for 2 covers, my entire stash is used. But I got hell of a deal - ~40 small prefolds (they fit about 6wks-4mo on DD1), ~50 BG and FB pockets in one-size and med, all for $100 from a mom of triplets. I bought them at a time when I didn't know much about the potential downsides of using used, but I lucked out and everything works great.
I figure when diapers are washed properly, they are getting clean enough that it's safe to put next to your baby's skin again, plus what PPs said about poop & pee getting on used clothing, so I'm not bothered at all by used CDs.

I have some used ones! I pick ones in really good condition and then get them nice and clean before using

@T.H.O.U.: yup! There were so many I think she just wanted them out of the house. As you can imagine, with triplets their house was pretty full.

@looch: I think this is kind of how I feel. People say "only used xyz to wash, bleached a few times, etc" but how do you really know?
@pinkcupcake: Yay! Yeah, I am finding that I can get deals new for practically as much as a lot of the sellers want for used diapers. I'd rather spend the extra $2-3 (in most cases) just to have new ones.

@Cole: Totally! I never even told DH about looking for used ones. He was/is not totally on board about CD'ing anyway in our washing machine. And YES! I went to one of the sales at our local store and all the used CDs were just thrown all around, looked dingy and I didn't even want to pick one up to look. And I found a box of Charlie Bananas once at Target, opened them to find someone else had returned a bunch of old (various) used and stained CDs in the box and was disgusted. So maybe those 2 instances have kind of turned me off to used.

We bought some used, but we mostly use prefolds. There's not a lot you can do to mess up a cotton prefold's absorbency. I bought a few pockets used, mostly for sitters, and they've also been totally fine. I've used them for 15 months with no problems and they're still just as good as the ones I bought brand new. I'm confident they'll all last through to at least a second child (longer for the prefolds), considering what condition they're in now. I do a strip when I first get used diapers, but I don't worry about sunning. I also don't sun mine to remove stains, though. He's just going to poop on them again, and I don't have time to be worried about that.

I've bought covers used, but never the inserts.
We only cloth diaper PT (daycare won't do it), which sucks, but it means we can get away with a smaller stash for now, until we have the money/find the right nanny.

We have a few used in our stash. Nothing a few washes and some bleach wouldn't fix.

I bought almost all of mine used and had no problems. As my husband says the whole purpose is to catch poop, even used they can handle that. 
We've had no problems and I spent 1/2 of what I would have new on a 24 pack.
