Did you use a family name for your baby?
Heres our info.... We'd love to name our first son after both his Grandfathers, one which is deceased. The first name would be my fathers name And the middle name would be my husbands fathers name.... BUT. My brother also shares the same name as my father, but the spelling is different.
So, Would you use a name if two family members already use it?

Yep. Our kids all have family names. My oldest son first name is his great grandfather and great uncle. His middle name was his great grandfathers middle name, his grandfathers first name and my husbands middle name.

Yes. LO's name is exactly her great-great-grandmother's name. Several aunts and cousins share parts of it. Should we ave a boy in the future, he will have my grandfather's name. One cousin has already used it (middle), and I know a couple more would like to.

Would you use the name if your father and brother share the same name or is that too much? All used as a first name.

@jh524: I would. Bonus if there's a cool nickname, but I would use it even if there weren't (and DH is anti-nickname)

We used family names, but in our religion it's tradition to name after deceased relatives. I think I would ask your brother if he's ok with it. Does he have kids? Do you think he'd ever want a Jr? I think it would be fine to use if he's ok with it, but I'd probably come up with a nickname.

My grandfather and my brother share the same first name, We opted not to use our siblings' names in case they would like the opportunity to have a Jr. one day. But we are considering using it as a middle name.

@jh524: I would since the spelling is different.
My daughter's middle name is after my husband's maternal grandmother. If we have a boy next his middle name will be after my deceased BIL.

@artbee: that's a good idea to ask my brother. As far as I know, they're done having kids... He got snipped so no more for him. Lol.

If LO is a girl, her middle name will be my mother and DH's mother's name (They both have the same name, luckily!) and if it's a boy it will have my maiden name. I like having some sort of family connection to at least part of their name

A shares a first name with my husband, who shares it with his grandfather. Different middle names though.

Definitely, especially if they would be spelled differently. I think family names are a really awesome connection between the generations!

@jh524: in that case hell probably be flattered! I just thought he should have dibs on the name if he has a boy and wants to name him Jr since it is his name, but if he doesn't want to use it then you should be able to.

I would be ok using a family name as long as no one of the same generation (ie a first or second cousin to the baby) had the name.

No, but we will continue to use my maiden name for our LO's middle name. I like that part of my family will be passed down as well.

I love the idea of family names but I don't have anyone I like enough that I also like their name enough! 
My concerns in your situation would be: is there a nickname? Would it be confusing to have , say John, Jon, and John? Would he have to be little John? Would be misspell it? Hard to say without knowing the real name but if you are happy with it and your brother is good with it, go for it!

We chose LO's middle name as a family name. It's DH's grandparents' last name.

@Foodnerd81: we have a big steve( Stephen) 65yrs old and little Steve (Steven) 35 yrs , and were thinking of using my fathers name, Stephen. He'd have to be baby Steve I guess... Hmm... Any other suggestions...
