I was looking at baby names at 5 am this morning when DS finally fell back asleep and i couldn't haha, we aren't KU but its always fun to look. I saw a bunch of 'R' names (our son is named Ryland) that i liked but i dont think i would ever name another child using that same letter. Just curious if other felt the same or differently.

It would depend on the names. I certainly would only do it if the names were truly my absolute favorites.

I wouldn't be opposed to it for names I love. But, my first born and I share the same initials, so wanted to avoid it the second time around.

@Mrs. Jacks: I feel the same way if i couldn't Live without another R name i might pull the trigger and go for it? I just think back on my childhood with a dog named Jasper and a Brother named Jordan and my mom would always get mixed up and call my brother / the dog the wrong name...

Our kids will have names with the same letter and so do my sister and I. I think it's cute and totally dependent on the name.

It sort of depends how many kids there are. Two kids with the same letter wouldn't bother me, but three or more and it starts to feel a little like the Duggars.
FWIW, my husband and I both have A names and people always asked me if we'd continue with the A theme and have all A names. I always said no way! But then we fell in love with an A name for our daughter. I was insistent that our son not be an A name (didn't want matchy twin names) but now he's the only one in the family without an A name. Sometimes I wonder if he will feel left out someday. Probably not, right? Ultimately, we chose names that we liked regardless of the first initial.

It wouldn't matter. If we have a second, my favorite boy name begins with a J, like DS. But our girl name is an N.

DH and I have the same first initial, and we plan on naming all of our children with the same first letter too. Call it corny, idc!! I like it!!

Don't like it at all. I love several other L names but won't use them because LO has an L name.

My brother and sister in law both have S names, and my husband (third in line) was almost given one too. Not actually sure why they opted out of it- it's fairly common in the south. One of his cousins has an R name, and both their girls do also. Her husband has a z name and so does their son.
I wouldn't mind naming another child an E name- the only ones I like are Ezra and Elliot though which sound way too close to Ellie/Eliza to me.

Nope, not our style. We worked to avoid matching letters. Each pregnancy I had a letter that I fell for and had a couple names narrowed down.

possibly if i absolutely loved an R name, but I don't know that i'd want to set a precedent of having to name another R. i think it's weird that DH's sisters have names that start with Bri- and he starts with a P.

@katsupgirl: Our Last name starts with a C, If we ever have a little girl i want her middle name to be Bettie after my grandma, So if we chose an A girl name her initials would be ABC

If we have another son, we will use another R name. My favorite girl name starts with an L, so if we have another daughter, we will use L again. So basically, R for boys and L for girls. Works well for reusing monogrammed items, although that's definitely not why I would do it.

@MrsHoneyC: I do my matching in more subtle ways-- such as syllables, era of origin, and ending. You don't realize they match until I point it out.

@katsupgirl: I know someone who did the alphabet theme for their family! Their kids are Angela, Brian, Carrie, Darren, Edwin, Faith, Grace, Hope, and Ivanna.

I wouldnt do it on purpose but I wouldn't not name my child a name I like because of it either. Our DS has an L name and the name we like for another boy is William, nn Liam. It's a family name and I wouldn't not use it because of the first letters.

My son's name starts with an E. I wouldn't be opposed to an E name for the next one if I love that particular name, but I wouldn't seek out an E name on purpose either.

Our sons name starts with an A. I am currently pregnant with our second but we don't know the gender yet but our top girls name starts with an A so I have been thinking a lot on this!
My husband's name starts with J and so do his 2 sisters. My MIL said when she had her first 2 kids both starting with J and then got pregnant with her third baby she felt she had to pick a J name as the others were.

I would as long as I knew we were stopping at 2. Any more than that and I'm not a fan.

We're deliberately doing that with middle names. But in this case I like that it ties back to R, and DH's middle names starts with R as well. But if R had lived? I don't know that it would matter as much. We're probably one and done, but if not, I don't know if we'll continue it with another. Well, a boy will because we have to use DH's middle name for family reasons, but not sure about a girl. Not even sure we could agree on another R name for a girl! But I don't think we'd do it with first names ever, and this one won't go by her middle name like R would have.
ETA- I hadn't thought about it, but my mom and her siblings all have L middle names, presumably on purpose. I thought it was neat when I was little. Now I just don't really care one way or the other. Not like the vast majority of people in their lives have any idea anyway.

DH and I (and our dog) all have names that begin with "K". For us, "K" names (or even C names with that sound) were off limits. Too matchy-matchy and cutesy for me.

Our kids will all have the same first letter. My brother and I's names rhyme, but my mom didn't do it on purpose. We love it though. I like the cohesiveness of sibling names, corny or not! DH and I are "A" and "B" and he was really hoping there would be a "C" name we loved lol. Nope, it's an M!
ETA: I knew a family growing up with 5 or 7 kids, and they all had biblical names that started with letter J.

@Mrs. Jacks: Exactly! I keep mine sneaky- our first starts with a C as a nod to my maiden name. Both boys are 7 letters like my first name, just little details since we all have my husband's last name. Our second's ends in tt, just like my husband, but both of his names are from my side. We took turns with middle family names, my husband got the first after a great uncle who was a big help in paying for his grad degree. I'm a little terrified of the internal naming pressure in my brain if we go for a third. But as you have shown, it all works out!
All the alphabetical name mentions make me think of my favorite musical, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

It wouldn't bother me. My husband is one of 3 L boys, and actually DH, DS and I are all L's. My mom was one of 8 and all the kids had JLS as initials!

Same letter names are fine with me. After the first two, I think I'd feel the need to only look at the same letter for the third child too though.
i feel like i would probably do the same thing haha.
