LO is scheduled for 18 months vaccinations tomorrow ( she is 20 months, but I am just late). BUT, she has been rocking a crazy fever for the last 24 hours and I am thinking of canceling. I WOH, so rescheduling means putting it off for another 1-2 weeks, or maybe even three, when I can get off work.
The internet and my pediatrician say that vaxing when sick is fine but I don't feel like I want to stress her body out further.
What would you do? Or what have you done, if this has happened to you?

LO's Dr doesn't vaccinate when sick...we have to go back to a clinic when she is well.

If the doctor said it was okay, I'd do it. My LO was never really bothered by her vaccines.

Hmm I would probably put it off if she still has fever in the morning and try to get in next week. But I have no real basis for that, just what I think I would do. hope she feels better!

If the doc OK's it, I would do it. C got his 18 month shots while dealing with a double ear infection - was totally fine. The doc will know the threashhold of what fever/illness is safe for LO to handle shots.

@lizzywiz: My ped usually doesn't vax when sick esp with a fever. But I also think it's pretty important to vax on time. I would call, they might be able to get you in within the next week or so. Do they do early morning appts?

I would take the opportunity to bring LO in, to rule out an ear infection and let the doctor advise you.

DS had a bad head cold during his 12 month well check, instead of the five vaccines he was supposed to get he got three (the other two will be at his 15 month chk).
However, the flu vaccine was one of the ones that he did get, and he ended up with a real bad case (103 fever, etc.) a week later. Not sure if it was related, but we probably won't be doing it again if it happens and wait it out.

This happened to us at our 15 mo appt. We still went but chose to delay the vaccines to a later nurses visit when the kids were well. The ped said it wasn't a bad idea since they were due for their first mmr, which can be one of the more reactive ones.

I would ask doctor. I'd still bring your LO to the doctor just to make sure your LO doesn't have an ear infection.

@looch: @littlek: that is a good idea and I love being cleared by a DR. (I always assume the worst, so t helps to talk me off the ledge) but vax appt at my pediatrician are nurses only, just to give shot. I can try to get in for a real appt. though. -
We got DS' 15 month shots when he had a double ear infection and he was fine. The doc said we could wait or get it over with. Maybe you could call the doc/nurse and see what they suggest?

Our ped won't vax if your LO has a fever.

I would keep the 18 month well visit but reschedule the shots when your LO doesn't have a fever.
Our ped will do vax when sick but not if a fever is present.

Our pediatrician won't vaccinate if they have a fever. And the practice is a very strict, AAP-schedule-adhering one.

Thanks, Bees. I am going with my gut and rescheduling.
She had her 18 month well check but didn't get the shots because she was on steroids for her croup/ breathing stuff that I have posted about before. This was just a vax appt. so I am going to reschedule.
