We had a play date at our house last Thursday with my friend and her two kids. My friend walks in my door with a box of tissues and some OJ and says she has been sick all week but didn't want to cancel. Um really? I would rather you have canceled. But anyway, so we proceed with the play date. It turns out that her two kids had runny noses, too, so there was a whole bunch of snot wiping. And then come Saturday, who has a runny nose? My DD of course!!! So far it's just a runny nose for the last 3 days but I am annoyed anyway. Please don't try and be polite and not cancel play dates if you are sick. Just reschedule. Thanks. End of vent!

I feel like as a mom, that should be known. It's not like a business meeting or something. The last thing you want to do is spread sick germs between kids. Hope your DD feels better soon!

Ugh! I would be mad too. I teach school and a few parents send their kids sick ALL the time..like with a fever sick. Our rule is fever free for 24 hrs. without the help of meds. Often they will give them a tylenol and send them on their way. It doesn't help anyone when you do that! I often wonder what people are thinking?! Hope your LO feels better.

Isn't it common sense to keep sick people and kids away from kids?

seriously! my DDs have been sick so I have been cancelling playdates lately. I would feel terrible giving something to other people, especially other kids. I feel bad canceling but parents seem relieved I'm being honest when I tell them why.

I'd be super annoyed too! It's like, what favor are they doing by not canceling the playdate? Ay yay yay.

@mrstilly: Great point about it not being a business meeting. They live 5 minutes away so we could have rescheduled for any time.

Next time (if there IS a next time) I would call or text the day before and ask if anyone's sick. Let her know that your LO has a runny nose now! -
That makes me so mad too. I never bring my LO out if he is sick. I don't even take him to the store!
I have a friend who has a LO who is two weeks younger than my LO and every time he comes over, my LO gets sick, even if the other little boy is fine. He goes to daycare and picks up weird germs and brings them to my house, infecting my LO who doesn't go to daycare. SO annoying!

You're totally right andrea! I would be upset too, because getting sick usually means at least me or my husband is sick too, and that sucks!!!
I cancel if there's a hint of sickness, either with me or my son. I think it's just better that way. -
That's the pits! My friends and I usually reschedule or let the non sick people know and then make the call to go ahead or not.

@belleoftheballe: does he come over when he is actually sick? i would stop having them over! i have another friend who's son ALWAYS seems to be sick so i never make any play dates with them. i just go out with the mom since she isn't usually sick.

This drives me crazy too. And the mom with the sick kids always says, "it's normal for kids to ALWAYS be sick". Ugh.
