I think R is saying her name. I'm not counting it as her first word yet though because she's just vocalizing it over and over.

DS' wasn't. He actually just started saying his name within the past week (19 months old and he has a very extensive vocabulary).

A few months after LO had her first word there was a period of a month or two when LO made a sound like her name. She would call it out when she couldn't see me or DH, much like we would call out her name if she crawled out of sight. I think she thought it meant "where are you?" or "come back." Now she has more words and she doesn't say it anymore. (14 months now)

no, her first word was dada. followed by "up" and "down". she is just now saying the last 2 syllables of her name when she sees herself in pics or the mirror. (similar to how kids say "nana" when they mean banana) she is 18 months.

That's super cool!
Nope for us. Probably very little chance of that cause we mostly call her baby. when we ask her what her name is she mostly says baby. If you ask her again then she'll say her name.

Ha no, he started saying his name around 18 months but it's not consistent. DH's first word was his own name though!

No, LO didn't say her name until much later!

Go R! That's impressive! B can say mama, dada, nana, pop, and dog. We aren't sure which was technically his first word though because he babbled mama, dada, and nana for a long time before he could actually associate them with people.

Nope, ball. She and her best friend share the same first two letters of their names so now she calls both herself and her best friend the same thing which is very confusing!!

Nope! It was more, then dada, then banana ("nana") and then nurse. Then dog. Still no mama....

Aw. That's really neat. Ellie's first word was, "Mama." Lorelei's was, "poop."

My DS's first word was bye bye. He didn't say his name until about 18 months.

@Mrs. Twine: R may not be saying her name at all...it just sounds like it. I love that Lorelei's first word was "poop!"

No! Aside from mama dada baba her first word was duck! Then dog.
Her name came around maybe 16-17 months? And it wasn't really her name but what she called herself. She corrected it and says it right except a w for the r now. She didn't start saying that til 18m.

@swedishfish: It is so quintessentially Lorelei. I think if she seems to be using it with purpose and it is consistent, you can count it. I tried really, really hard not to count "poop," but everyone else kept saying, "Oh! She knows what poop is! She can say poop!" Gee, thanks, everyone.

@swedishfish: Now Lorelei has just moved on to calling all women, "Dames." Yeah.

Nope. It was dada. He just started saying his name at 22 months.
