I knew I had ovulation issues but I didn't expect my DH to have issues as well. I did not expect to have to do IVF.

I also didn't realize until a few weeks ago that we have to pay for the annual storage of our embryos so we will be trying for a second LO much sooner than anticipated. Our insurance priced out the storage fee for us but neglected to tell us that our plan doesn't cover it. But I know we are incredibly lucky to have the infertility coverage that we do.

1) I was positive that I'd get pregnant right away (within the first 3 months, for sure).
2) I was positive that once I got pregnant I wouldn't miscarry.
3) I was positive that I only wanted one baby until I had E (well, it took a few months). DH and I are currently at odds about it.

Yes and no.

I thought it would take me awhile to get pregnant (being almost 34 at the time), but I got pregnant the first month we tried. I also worried about miscarriage, and I did end up having one at 7 weeks. We got pregnant again though as soon as we tried a 2nd time.

I too thought I'd want to try for a 2nd right away (I'll be 35 this Sunday!), but that's kind of on hold right now. I'm enjoying my time with J, so I'm in no rush, but I hope one day I can still give her a sibling.

We were so blessed. DH and have been together since he asked me to prom (1999). I figured if I hadn't (accidentally) gotten pregnant in all that time it was going to be difficult. Imagine my surprise with a BFP the first month off BC. Now I have been having very long cycles and find myself worried about secondary IF. I suppose we always find something to worry about.

Ours was definitely different than we expected. We were told by our genetic specialist that (essentially) we had a 30% chance of miscarrying each time I'm pregnant, and (as with all genetic issues) as I age, that chance of miscarriage will go up exponentially. We expected it would take several months to a year, and that we'd experience a miscarriage or 2 along the way. We were mentally prepared for that, and were planning on taking a relaxed, NTNP approach. Instead we got pregnant with X the same night that we met with the genetic specialist. I know we were very lucky, very blessed. I won't take it for granted that we'll have it so easy when we start talking about having baby #2.

So far it's been weirdly similar to my expectations. I was nervous it would take a while, but still expected it to happen quickly. My sister guessed it would take two cycles which is exactly what it took. We were very lucky. Well cross the road on when to have #2 later.

I thought i would have trouble getting pregnant due to the endo. I never expected 2 mc and a clotting disorder to make it take almost 1.5 years. Then the genetic testing...Oye. Ridiculousness

I expected it to take at least a year. I did not expect it to happen as soon as we mentioned the idea. I also didn't expect that we would match with M. so quickly.

Yes. I thought I would get pregnant the first cycle. 2 miscarriages and 2 years later, I got pregnant with Charlie when we weren't trying.

Well I assumed it would take up to 6 months to get pregnant but it happened the first try and it was quite the shock! We feel very blessed but it was still surprising it happened so quick.

Our path will be significantly different than I thought it would be. My husband and I are carriers for a genetic disorder. TTC the "normal" way is not a good idea for us. We will be TTC with IVF along with PGD. We are only in the beginning stages of researching fertility clinics and getting other testing done.

I had also hoped to have more than one child but given my medical issues, it may not be feasible for me to be pregnant more than once.

It isn't what I'd envisioned but I'm grateful that the technology is there to make this a possibility.

It was way faster than I expected for which I am grateful. I know many people struggling.

Yes, because I have long, somewhat irregular cycles, I assumed it would take us a while to conceive.....but nope, we got pregnant literally the first time we pulled the goalie. I was shocked!

I always thought we'd start trying for our second when LO was six months old as I'm only 13 months younger than my sister and would love to have two LOs close in age. I'm also 33 and want three kids, so I know I don't have loads of time on my hands. Whilst we did stop preventing when LO was 7 months old, I kind of knew we weren't really TTC yet as I didn't have my cycles back due to BF'ing, and I was ok with that as I'm not ready to give up my one on one time with E yet.

I'm 11 months pp and whilst my cycles have sort of returned (super irregular though as I'm still BF'ing), I don't think they're going to get back to normal until I wean and I'm ok with that. I had thought I would wean around six months so we could be pregnant by the time E turns one, but I love my time with her so much, that I'm just not really that fussed about when my cycle comes back or when we get pregnant again.

So far, it's been different than I hoped it would be...but I also always expected it would take awhile. We've been NTNP for a year, and nothin'. I was really hoping NTNP would work for us, because I know actively TTC might make me a bit batty.

I didn't expect to get pregnant at all, or at least without lots of help, due to endometriosis. We got pregnant on cycle 2 of NTNP. My mom always had a hard time getting (and staying) pregnant and had several miscarriages, so it took a long time for that fear to go away for me. I thought we'd try for another right away after this one, but I think I'm content to wait a while.

I am an older FTM, and I thought for sure we would not conceive in the first year. I fully expected it to take at least a year to get pregnant. We were successful on our first try and I have a 2.5 year old.

I thought it would take forever to get pregnant coming off the pill after being on it for 10+ years. My nurse friends warned me that it could take months for my cycle to regulate. I got pregnant the first month after I stopped taking it.

I thought for sure we would be one and done and now I'd looove to have another LO. Sadly, I don't think it's in the cards for us.

after reading online before NTNP, I was convinced it was going to take a long time. thankfully for us, it was only 3 cycles. we then thought we would wait a year before trying for number 2. then we got our surprise BFP when DS was 7 months old

I didn't have any real known reason to think it would take us a while to conceive (like PCOS or similar), but I thought it would take several cycles because my husband was 45 when I conceived and has been having the secks for like 25+ years without a single "oops" or even a scare. Because of that, he was convinced it would take us a while. Instead, we literally conceived the first time we didn't use protection, even though I thought the date we did it was a safe date in my cycle.

We were extremely lucky.

I thought I would have a hard time getting pregnant for no good reason - I sort of did. Took 8 months with a miscarriage mixed in.

After having a hard time getting pregnant, I thought we would just roll with the punches after baby 1 and try to get pregnant again pretty quickly. Bed rest and a difficult pregnancy changed that. I'm almost 33 and LO is now 12 months and I don't have the urge yet.
