I've purchase some from a local maker and they didn't work so well for me cuz I would wake up drenched. I even emailed the company to complain and they said they'd send me another model.
I even had a friend send some rather expensive wool ones but same thing happens. I think I'll have to go back to disposables.
Anyone else have/had issues with washable nursing pads?

I got some from a friend (I didn't even know they existed!) so I didn't shop around or anything, but they did not work for me. I couldn't get them to stay in place, they were bulky, and I still leaked through my clothes.

My sister makes her own, and always makes them for friends when they get pregnant and she swears by them. I think she changes them a few times a day? I'll have to ask her, I'm sure that there are a few sets coming my way soon!

They did work for me. I used ones that had waterproof backing. If I needed more, I would put nonwaterproof ones in front of them.

I've been using them and they work great for me. I only had my baby a week ago though so my leaking is minimal. Not sure if they'll hack it once they really start filling up!

I have the organic cotton ones from BRU. I'm not a huge leaker and change a few times a day, and they work really well so far. I like the softness of actual fabric vs disposables.

@Mrs. Mousie: I wonder what she uses to make them... its been unsuccessful for us.
I do leak a lot when I breasfeed or pump hence why I use the Milkies, so unfortatnely even though i want to be eco-friendly its just not happening for us.

Mine would get super soaked too....they didn't leak through to my shirt, but they'd feel gross and so I'd have to change them so often that the set I had wouldn't last all day. But now that LO is 4 months old, I am finally leaking less and find that mine are now right for me.

When they are in the wash, I just use baby washcloths folded up and tucked into my bra.

I didn't like that they were so bulky. We hardly use disposable anything but I much preferred the disposable nursing pads.

The disposable ones I didn't like because they got cold on me--the washable ones didn't work with certain shirts (you could see the outline), and none were good enough for night, so I sleep on a towel.

@Mrs. Sunglasses: have you heard of or tried Lillypadz? They are sillicone i think and the seal and pressure supposedly prevents leaking, rather than just absorbing the milk.

I used reusable ones when Sawyer was little, I would change them every 1-2 feeds, but I don't leak at all anymore.

@MerryC: OMG, be careful with them--they STOP the leak, so if you leak a lot you will get ENGORGED and it hurts!
They work, but do not wear them all day! They worked great for me when I went to a wedding and needed to not leak in my dress, but I only use them for like a few hours at a time.

I liked lilypadz for light use, if you are over producing and the seal breaks you get drenched. They are super discreet though! Cloth also only worked for me once my milk leveled out, at first I could only use disposables ( sad, I would rather be Eco-friendly as well )

I bought a basic 6-ct from babies r us and liked them at first, until I went to take them out of my bra quickly that night and they were like GLUED to my nipples. OW!!!!
I've stuck with the disposable since then. I'm not even breastfeeding yet - just leaking obscene amounts during pregnancy. I can't sleep without bra pads on or I wake up soaked.

@Mrs. Sunglasses: Okay, this was the response from my sister, it was actually a friend's mom who made them (the ones my sister made didn't work as well):
She uses flannel on one side and a quilted batting on the other that has holes in it for air circulation. When your milk first comes in, whether you have washable or disposable, you may leak. However, I don't. The only time I find I may leak is at night (when it's been a while between feedings or the pads have moved in my built in bra top). I try to fix this by sleeping with 2 pads per breast and I lay them side by side (again, I wear a shirt with a built in bra so things move around).

I only leak when ilet down on the side I'm not nursing on, and the reusable ones don't cut it. I was pretty bum,ed

Glad to hear its not just me. Phew!! It just sucks. I wish there was something Eco-friendly out there.
