It wasn't with an LG but we ended up using some kind of warranty with Lowes to exchange our new w/d twice within a few months (comparable to what you have) because we were unhappy with the performance and features.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: The problem was really us! We started with the Whirlpool Duet 4.3 cu ft w/d and I got frustrated that I couldn't just choose the temperature and spin setting - I was stuck only being able to customize their presets slightly. (Actually now I realize that we don't have the automatic dispensing feature.) So we swapped for a comparable Samsung set but I really didn't like the features on that and I thought it might be broken, so we switched back to the Whirlpool and actually we've been pretty happy with it. And with proper maintenance we haven't had the stink/mold issues.

We have what an LG top loader that detects the size of the load for water purposes but not the soap dispensing. Overall I really like it but it was recalled (mine is about 3 years old) because of an issue that makes it "walk" if you wash large waterproof items in it. They will send out a repair person I just haven't called to schedule someone but it sounds like I still won't be able to wash things like a waterproof mattress pad so I would double check on that if I were you. The one other issue is we have to make sure to only use the low setting for the spin cycle with clothes, otherwise things get crazy tangled.

Largely, we are really happy with the set though and haven't had any hiccups other than the recall and that hadn't caused any issues for us.
