So the next two weekends we will be staying with my in laws, it's deer season here and it's a tradition for us to all stay both weekends. With this comes my MIL (who is the seriously the nicest woman) allowing a lot more "freedom" with my toddler than I do. I try my best to make it known I'm still momma and what I say goes, but she likes to run to grandma which gets frustrating. I just take deep breathes and realize it's only a weekend but how do you make sure your child still "knows who's boss?"

Can your husband say something to his mom when you first get there? "Mom, we've been working really hard to get LO's behavior to a certain place so we would really appreciate if it you could try to back us up while we're here. I know it's really fun to spoil LO and let her have some fun, but we want to make sure we don't undo all the hard work we've done"

@Truth Bombs: I wish, he's a momma's boy he would never say anything to his mom that might hurt her feelings. And honestly I wouldn't either, because she really does so much to help us and she's a fabulous mother in law. I just wish LO knew we are the boss still even though we are staying at grandma's house.

I would talk to my MIL directly, I would frame it as "we've been working on xyz thing, with these consequences and rewards and it would be awesome if you could help us out on that." This way, she is part of the solution, otherwise, how would she know the rules and what is acceptable?

I would just step in where it really matters, but let most things slide. In the grand scheme of things, it is only a short amount of time, and you can explain to LO when you get home that you are home now and going back to normal.
