I would have been totally fine with my daughter, because she was a really good baby. So from my perspective, I'd say you'd have no problems. I'm not sure what moms with fussy babies would say though. I think even if you have a fussy LO if there are places you could stop along the way if you needed to, that would be helpful.

My daughter was also a February baby, and driving around that first summer with her wasn't bad. She was sleeping every 2 hours, so she would sleep almost every single car ride. It got more difficult as she got older... probably when she was about 10 months old. She was staying awake longer and started to hate being in her car seat.

I haven't traveled that frequently with our boys, but I think it would be doable. Having a house, over a hotel, is definitely the way to go!

We started doing this exact situation when LO was about 6.5 months old (we bought a weekend house 2 hours away and go up Friday nights and leave SUnday evenings). IT's actually great because LO has his own room and all his stuff up there, so it's way easier than going on vacation somewhere like a hotel where we need to bring everything.

We found that leaving when it's LO"s bedtime works the best for us, even thought it means driving at night and getting up to the house/back home later at night.

Depends a little on your kid, but I think we could have managed this pretty easily with our daughter. It actually sounds like a pretty good idea to get used to taking longer trips as a family. You'll be amazed at how much stuff you need to bring with you! The only potential issue is if your baby hates the carseat. That could be challenging...

It would have been totally doable with our guy, we did 3 hour drives a couple times per month at about that time, and he always slept the whole time, I just nursed him right before we got in the car, popped in his soother, then he was fine!

@raintreebee: yup we did...we bought much less expensive things though--crib from target, chair/rocker from ikea (its the poang one), rug from ikea, changing table from ikea. Other than that, we bought some new toys for the house, and brought others from our apt up there. We bring clothes back and forth, but have diapers, wipes, creams, medicines up there.

I didn't have the chance to do something like this, but in hindsight, it would have been fine with my son. Had we planned to do it, I am sure it would have been a nightmare, lol!

I'd definitely do it!

We do it with DH's family's vacation home. i would say do it. You will need to bring a lot of things but i think its worth it to get away for a little bit.
