I also have gotten "that's a big name for such a little guy." I don't get it!

@littlejoy: SIL said, oooo I loved that name when I was pregnant but my husband (DW's brother, DS's uncle) absolutely hates it. Hahaha. She felt so bad after that slipped out she apologized about four times.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @Mommy Finger: it wasn't until last month when we were at a birthday party for DH's grandma June, that I realized she was also born in June. Great Grandparents had a funny bone

@Truth Bombs: Gus was on our list too and I heard that a lot! Shrug!!! It's cute for dogs or babies. Haha.

@mrsmacSLP: We get asked all the time if DD was named after a television show. I always explain that we like the show, but didn't name her to honor a fictional character.
@newlypregnantlady: We also run into pronunciation difficulties. DD's name has been in the 400s, popularity-wise, for several years, so it's not crazy popular, but there are a few well-known fictional characters with the name, so I didn't expect so much trouble.

@Truth Bombs: ha! We have 4 friends with dogs named DD2's name but I knew that going in. Didn't care enough to not name her that!
DD1: most people love it or think she's saying something else. A friend's MIL told her, that's not a real name. And my friend replied, yes, it is because they named their baby that.
DD2: it's an uncommon name with a normal spelling and pronunciation but since it's not one you hear often, people get confused. And then say, oh, like to kill a mockingbird! Yep!

@Truth Bombs: This! I've gotten the comments about it's a dogs name too. Bugs me. For the record, Chloe isn't a common dog name
The name I really wanted for LO2, was also highly linked to a dog name and DH vetoed it for that reason. He knew too many dogs with the name. I still don't think it's a dog's name. I'm not going to share as I know at least one HB'er has a child with the name.

@Mommy Finger: I wonder if we have the same friend.
I don't get any comments other than "that's pretty" usually. But I have been asked once or twice if she is named after the character in Twilight.

@Mrs. Pickle: I'll ask this first question. . . does she live in the US or elsewhere?

@SweetCaroline: ha ha!
@Truth Bombs: one of my customers brings her dog to work. She was inspired by the same TV show character DH was when he picked our son's name. We got a kick out of the coincidence. The dog's actual name is the nn version.

DD is Anna and she has red hair.. People always ask if I named her after a certain Disney princess sister (no) and then pronounce her name Ah-nna like the princess (no). She actually is named after a fictional character-Anne of Green Gables!

For me it's more that they assume she's a male over the phone because her name is unisex (I think). It's evenly boys and girls named her name in the US each year. In person usually some explanation/clarification is needed but after that no more questions/comments.

We get questions about nicknames. Both kids have names with common nicknames, but are never called that. DH and I don't like nicknames.

@youboots: we get this all the time. E's name is way more common for a boy but it's certainly not unheard of for a girl. We can dress her top to toe in pink, with a frilly my little pony dress and still when people hear her name they say "ooh, sorry, I thought he was a girl". Umm, what's more likely - that my daughter is called Elliott or I've dressed my son up like this?

When my son was about a week old, my father informed me, "His name is growing on me." Thanks.

When my FIL told my MIL our son's name after he was born she said "No, they cannot name my grandson that!" (It's a top 25 name, but she thought it sounded too "old").
@Truth Bombs: My DH's aunt named her dog my son's name AFTER my son was born. That still irks me!

With D, no one has really said anything weird or rude, but we're constantly correcting people who think his name is Jackson. And the chaplain at his daycare called him Daxton, no matter how many times he or his teacher corrected her.
With A, we usually just get "That's so pretty/different."

We get a lot of, "Oh, you don't hear that name much anymore!" It's actually a very popular name right now so not sure why people say that... I guess because it's a classic/traditional name?

@ShootingStar: @Raspberry: We also have a Declan, and also get the same comments. "Why Declan?", "How did you think of it?", "Huh, I've never heard of that name", etc. Never bad comments but I live in Boston with about a zillion Irish people so I really didn't expect the confusion.
Ironically, my daughter's name is probably the same level of popularity on the Social Security charts and nobody thinks it's unique. They usually just tell me it's a pretty name, and ask if it was my grandmother's (no, it was not).

My daughter has a double name and we get a lot of resistance when we meet new people. A lot of "That's long". Certain family members are still refusing to call her by the double name which is frustrating, but once people use it it comes really naturally.
My son's was a little controversial at first and my Grandma would say "I'm just not sure about Killian" even after he was born. We don't get any flack now though and strangers have never had a problem with it.

I've had several people tell me DD has a "superhero name" which is kind of funny since DS actually has the name of a superhero. Another comment I hear a lot is "I'd just like to meet one John or Matthew."

My son's name is Luke and so many people have commented on how we named him a nickname and wondering why we didn't go with the "full name" of Lucas.
But Luke is a name! It's a book of the Bible! This is endlessly annoying and weird to me.

My son's name is Dominick. Someone who saw the name in writing after he was born (didn't hear the pronunciation) said that it was strange that we named a boy Dominique. We also call him "Nick" for short, not "Dom" which causes a whole slew of other confusion.

@littlejoy: most people love DD name but every now and then I get an "Everly? Like Beverly?"
Ummm no..... It's Everly as in that's her freaking name so say it right mmmm kay?
