@septemberlove: I don't have time for a detailed response right this sec bc I'm getting ready for a meeting but I wanted to pop in & say it sounds like you had a greatly successful day!!! Nursing has very different mechanics than bottlefeeding so the behavior you described is pretty normal, except most moms (in different circumstances) would just nurse more in that period. Check out kellymom's post on cluster feedings & fussy evenings (remember nursing is about more than nutrition)
http://kellymom.com/parenting/parenting-faq/fussy-evening/
Also if you look around there she has info & tips for bottlefeeding the breastfed baby since "traditional" bottlefeeding actually forces a baby to eat with their suck swallow reflex & how they literally have to engage this reflex bc their mouth fills with fluid.
Try not to stress, you & the little guy are doing great!!!

@septemberlove: I haven't commented before, but I've followed your posts and just want to say thank you for sharing your story!! You have done such an amazing job and your story is so very helpful to other women out there.
Remember that you are the mom, there is no one in this world that knows your baby better than you. Trust yourself and let him guide you.
Of course your husband is well meaning with his opinions and wants what is best for your son, but he is not there for the whole picture. You are - so trust yourself and keep taking it a day at a time.
Congratulations on the success you've had so far! It'll only get better, enjoy

@runsyellowlites: that makes a lot of sense, thanks for sharing! I went back and looked at our feeding logs (we've recorded every feeding since he came home) and he's been doing this, albeit on a smaller scale, for awhile. He's never taken 8oz over a few hours, but he went a much longer stretch between feedings last night too. Thanks for the link!

@T.H.O.U.: thanks we're back at it again this morning and he just nursed for 30 minutes on one side, with a few 1-2 minute breaks. I had to suction his nose this morning before we started nursing and I think getting him all pissed off helped him stay awake much better. 30 minutes with a few little breaks is a new record for him!
