I pretended I was but I knew the morning that he was planning his proposal. He was acting all nervous and kept asking me the same questions over and over, which he never does!

Yes! We had been discussing marriage, and I knew it would be soon...but I had no idea when he actually did it. I should have suspected something was up but I was ignorant. Lol

I was! I was even more shocked he was able to pull off the surprise!

Haha, I knew too. He had TOLD me a few months earlier that he was "ready" and then we went on vacation. I wanted to open the champagne we brought the first night but he wanted to wait and also take a walk on the beach at sunset the next night.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
Nope, I knew it was coming for a couple weeks. Right before he proposed (at a family cookout), we were walking outside and I heard his mom whisper "did you do it yet?!"
But it was still very sweet
pear / 1609 posts
Not really. I was doing laundry and found business cards for jewelry stores in his pocket and we were going on vacation the following week so I figured he would do it then. Well he didn't propose until like halfway through the vacation. So I started to think he wasn't going to anymore. I never told him I had a hunch

I accidentally found the ring a few weeks prior, so I knew it was coming. He caught me off guard when he did it though. I had raw chicken in my hands!

Shocked. Like very. He wanted it to be a surprise and succeeded. It was very romantic and "us".
pomelo / 5509 posts
I wasn't surprised that he was proposing because I knew he was going to at some point, but I was surprised at the moment/place he chose to do it. I wasn't expecting it then. He was acting so weird right beforehand that I actually asked if he was sick, hahaha.
coconut / 8079 posts
Totally surprised. I had no idea what he had planned. He asked me to go for a walk on the beach & I invited my brothers! By the time he got me alone on the beach it was practically dark!!

I knew he was going to propose, but I had no idea when and how so I was surprised!!
persimmon / 1128 posts
It was a complete surprise. He booked a swanky hotel, and had champagne, rose petals, music....the full deal. I wasn't expecting it because it was Valentine's Day so I thought it was all for that.
Also, I had my tonsils removed a week earlier so I was still semi-hopped up on meds.
pomegranate / 3105 posts
I found the box but didn't open it...months before he asked and he still doesn't know to this day. That will go to my grave with me before he knows. Was I shocked that I found out? Hell yeah. It took him 9 months of hiding the thing to actually do the deed. lol
papaya / 10343 posts
Nope I wasn't. I sort of knew it was coming by the way he was acting and we were going on an awesome vacation so I assumed it would be then. I was a little surprised he did it the first night, but definitely not completely surprised

Haha nope! I knew we were getting married the next day!

I was! Whenever we talked about marriage he told me he wouldn't be ready for a long time. So I was really surprised when he proposed.
persimmon / 1304 posts
Not completely! I was surprised when it happened in that particular moment, but I kinda knew it was coming for a bit.

I knew it was coming but I was completely surprised when he did it. He had made some joke an hour earlier, about that would have been a good place to propose huh. I was pissed. At least he made it up to me!
pear / 1571 posts
Yep! I knew the moment that he actually asked about making plans that weekend, lol, because he never made the plans for our weekends that far in advance (it was a Thursday and I usually made the last-minute plans).
I didn't tell him that I knew, but I couldn't keep it a secret either and the poor guy knew it wasn't going to be a surprise. Well, then he did surprise in the moment because he actually got down on knee when we rested on our way up the mountain to the lookout. Instead of doing it at the lookout, lol.

@Smurfette: Haha next time we play you need to tell me how he proposed!
honeydew / 7917 posts
Yes! He wasn't supposed to propose until after I finished college. We lived together at the time, and I thought it was impossible for him to hide such a big secret from me. I was in disbelief, and I thought the proposal was fake for a moment. When he opened the box it was lit with an LED light. So I assumed it was a fake ring. Haha.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
Not even a little. I had found the box in his pants a week earlier, and he can barely keep a secret from me. I knew the day he was planning, although he was mum on the details.
@babycanuck: 9 months?? Wow, I can't believe you kept your mouth shut for that long!!
pomegranate / 3105 posts
@lovehoneybee: haha yah! I found out in February, he proposed in June. He bought and hid the ring the October before that, right when we took possession of our house.

@babycanuck: Wow! 9 months! My DH had went to my father the morning he proposed to ask for his permission. He told my dad he was planning on doing it sometime later in the week. When he got back home (I was spending the night with him) he asked as soon as he walked through the door! He said later he couldn't wait any longer. Lol

Totally shocked. We'd started making long-term plans but hadn't actually had the marriage talk so I wasn't expecting to get engaged for at least another six months or so. He sent me on a scavenger hunt around his apartment and when I found the box, I was pretty sure it was going to be earrings I'd been wanting. I was really confused when I opened it and there was only one diamond staring back at me, haha.

I was COMPLETELY surprised. We had never talked about marriage, rings, *anything*. We both knew this relationship was "it", we lived together and owned a home together but I thought neither of us cared about getting married (I didn't care about getting married). DH had to go to California for work, and while there told his parents and best friend that he planned to ask me later that year to marry him. His best friend told him to just ask me, so as soon as he got home....he asked. He was acting so nervous, I thought he was going to break up with me! haha
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
Not exactly. I snooped on his computer and knew he bought the e-ring. And then he made me wait because of course I didn't keep that good news to myself. Then he dropped that he had it appraised, so I knew it was in his possession. We were LD and everytime we got together I prepared myself for the proposal.
When he finally popped the question I was completely caught off gaurd. My mom was in on it. Basically, they figured out a way to get me back to the site of our first date. Once he made his surprise appearance I knew it was time!

I was surprised when he actually proposed. But, I had a feeling it was coming because I went to do a google search on our computer and up popped a search asking if a certain designer ring was gaudy...so I figured he had bought one. He doesn't know that I saw that search though, and he never will lol
nectarine / 2973 posts
Nope! I knew he was going to soon. And we had went ring shopping together several months earlier.
pomegranate / 3003 posts
Nope; I totally knew. I told him that all I wanted for Christmas was to become engaged. He was acting nervous and giddy for a week leading up to the holiday, so I figured it was likely happening. It was still magical and awesome.
honeydew / 7687 posts
Yep 110%. Had no clue. He'd said he'd rather wait until he was out of his rotation program ... and he was lying! First words out of my mouth were, are you joking!
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
I knew he was going to propose and that he had the ring, but he still managed to catch me completely off guard when he asked! which is impressive, because I was basically expecting it 24/7 he did it AFTER a date night though, and it was perfect!
pomegranate / 3577 posts
I had no idea. He proposed at my grandparent's farm and I was naïvely excited about showing him where I grew up. I nearly found the ring at the airport, because I started rifling through his dopp kit to make sure all his liquids were in a clear plastic baggie.
We must've looked so suspicious, lol. He ran over and grabbed it out of my hands, sweating bullets. I totally should have figured it out then. He told me later that he imagined for a split second that he was just going to have to propose in the security line, heh.
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
I had thought he was going to propose on vacation but when the time came I figured it wasn't going to happen after all because he was so cool. I had thought he'd be a nervous wreck and drop hints all over the place.
pear / 1743 posts
Totally surprised. We'd been talking engagement for a while but I didn't realize that he'd even bought a ring
watermelon / 14467 posts
Yes and no. I knew it was coming, because we decided we were getting married after three months of dating, but I was surprised when he proposed on my birthday five months later.
pear / 1812 posts
I wish I was but DH talks in his sleep and it gets worse the more nervous he gets. I knew everything that was going to happen and when but for his sake I acted surprised. He worked so hard to make it perfect and surprise me I had to let him have that. I was surprised at how gorgeous the ring is and I still cried because of what he said and the fact that it really was happening!
