I groaned a lot...Then screamed a lot at the end. I had a sore throat/raspy voice afterwards. Ouch.

I moaned during transition... and I kept saying- lets just go home.

I was really quiet. I was in too much pain to speak for the most part (unplanned induction, stacked Pitocin contractions, and 27 hours of back labor) . . . and then when I was pushing, I could barely breathe!

No, I just moaned a lot. I think my moans towards the end were on the louder side though. I had been pushing for three hours and ended up with a forceps delivery. I'm still really fuzzy on all the details right before/after he was born.

@blackbird: honestly.....that makes me hate that nurse! Who cares if the other lady is dealing with her pain (and who's to say she's overreacting? everyone has different levels of labor pain) by being loud. Geez. Some labor nurses need a lot more training.

I was moaning LOUD before my epidural, by the way. No screaming, but they'd made me lay down in the bed on my back which made the contractions far, far more intense and I was in awful pain.

During pushing and stuff, I was totally silent but that's because it didn't hurt much with the epidural.

I moaned (or definitely made sounds) through the contractions, especially in transition since it was really hard. I think I mostly stopped at the end of transition because pushing felt great at that point. Maybe a little at the very end? for natural labor we were encouraged to use sounds to get through contractions so I never felt bad about it. no actual screaming or anything.

Nope! I was trying to sleep after I got my epidural. Then pushing was 20 mins and I just remember talking to the doctor and nurse between contractions and was amazed at how fast it was going.

Eh I haven't been in true labor yet but when I was in the hospital last week for that god awful stomach pain, I was having contractions underneath the stomach cramps and stabbing pain in my side. It was unbearable. I totally cried. Like sobbed loudly and squealed. I didn't yell but I came close. I always thought I could control myself when it came down to it but I guess not.

Interested to see what real labor brings!

I think I was pretty quiet apart from my frequent "I can't do it"'s every few minutes! I did get an epi though!

I was very quiet. My midwife told me I was "stoic." Although, I chatted a lot between contractions.

I was yelling through contractions. It hurt like hell and I didn't want anyone telling me I wasnt in pain.

Nope. I tried breathing/exhaling deep each time a contraction happened during transition.

I was very loud. I scared my animals, and my husband had to step out of the bathroom because the echo was too much. Once I got to the hospital, I screamed through a few contractions until my nurse told me to direct all my effort inward and put up the squat bar for me to push on.

I also remember talking about poop a lot and calling my husband names I'm sure he has never heard before during contractions and apologizing afterward.

@avivoca: hahaha! Oh man. I remember the squat bar, and ALL I could think of, even through pushes, was "don't F-n poop on the table sheena, DON'T POOP." and then I'd think "omg... was that a little poo? vagina, push out the vag not the other end". hahaha

sorry, TMI, but your post reminded me of that! haha

nope, i don't make a lot of noise when i'm concentrating. maybe some groans here or there but that's about it. i did scream like a banshee during the pushing "ring of fire" part.

mostly, i like peace and quiet - didn't even want music! it's distracting for me.

I moaned pretty loudly through the contractions, but the midwife and nurse helped remind me to keep them low which was better. I felt like I was screaming during pushing, but when I commented on it after they were like, Oh, no, that wasn't screaming. So I guess it wasn't that loud? I was very much in my own zone by the time pushing came around.

Around the point of transition I kept saying, "I just want this to be over soon" and "I'd really like this to be over", very polite. They were all laughing at me. That's when I asked about an epidural but since I was in transition we decided to keep going med free.

@.twist.: I still am not sure if I pooped, but frankly, I don't care and didn't in the moment. My friend had told me if it feels like you're pooping it means you are pushing right, so I took that to heart. So.... I probably pooped.

Yes, I remember doing loud grunting during each push. I had an epidural but it did nothing to take away the pain from pushing and I think I was just exhausted and the grunting helped me (in my head) get through each push.

@.twist.: I couldn't do the side...they kept me waiting until my epidural wore off. I did like when the nurse gave me a towel and we both pulled on it.
