My parents were hard working first generation immigrants, and they were not that cool. But I could never ever measure up to how hard they worked and sacrificed.
Will I be a cool parent? I don't know yet! The internet keeps us cooler/younger now, so things are very different now. I think I will be pretty strict, but I want to be kinda cool.

It was only my mom and she was very strict. All of my friends thought she was cool because she was young...but she was NOT COOL AT ALL!
I hope that I can strike a balance between being strict (but not too strict) and somewhat hip. Cool enough that my daughter will come and talk to me about everything, but strict enough that she won't walk all over us and be a terror.

My parents were (are!) cool in that they have hobbies, interests and a great social life and they have a great relationship independent of us kids and always look nice, lol. A lot of those things I didn't even get were 'cool' until I was an older teenager. They weren't cool as in letting us get away with things or letting us have parties at the house or things like that. They were fairly strict I guess. I hope my husband and I are like them!

They were cool in their own way. My parents liked for me to have friends over because then they could keep an eye on us, so they would go out of their way to get lots of good food and make our house the fun house.
I think it's hard to be a mom and still be cool at the same time.

My mum was too mumsy to be cool. She worked two jobs and kept the house spotless - she had no hobbies outside of that and never had any friends. It's sad really, when I look back on it, but at the time I took it for granted that she was just mum, you know?
I can't imagine I'm going to be very cool, either. I'm not very cool now so I don't see how or why I will be when my kids are growing up!!

My parents were good parents, they were not cool. I don't want to be cool. I just want to be a good parent. Honestly, most of the kids who had "cool" parents when I was growing up haven't done much with their lives...

@Mrs. Bee: Same here. I will never have their same work ethic and dedication.. I think I will be strict with a sprinkle of cool. I wont be a cool mom/friend but I hope as I get older I will still have a good sense of style, continue to be outgoing, and always do fun activities with my children.

My parents were like yours - working immigrants. They were not cool. I probably won't be a cool parent because I don't want to be my child's "friend". I just hope to avoid being a frumpy, mom-jeans wearing oldie.

My parents were the strictest of my friends. I think they were cool about some things though. I appreciate that they were my parents and never tried to be my friend. I hope to do the same by our kids.
I do want to be cool as in stylish and likeable. I want our house to be the one where all the kids hang out after school.

Well, I always thought my Dad was cool, but my mom, not so much. I try to be like my Dad in that he was very hard-working and loved to socialize (and I'm shy, so that's hard!) but my mom had no hobbies and few friends. Sometimes I think about how different I am from my mom (have tattoos, play video games, work outside the house), and wonder what kind of mom my kid will see me as!

My parents were relatively cool. At least compared with other parents, I guess. I was allowed to watch Fox (practically nobody else in my peer group was, but I also grew up in the Bible Belt) and read Stephen King at like 9 years old, and watch horror movies (with parental supervision). My mom would always make tons of food for my friends when they came over, and my parents both joked around a lot. They didn't let me stay out until 3 a.m. or smoke pot in the house (or at all, actually), but that's not really what defines a "cool parent" to me -- that's more like a "bad parent."
I hope to be cool, in the sense that I try to understand where my kids are coming from and show them that I do. I don't want them to think we can't possibly understand their struggles. But I also don't want to act like "hey that's ok" when they do dumb stuff with terrible consequences.
I liked the parents in "Easy A" lol, I hope to be like them!

My parents let me do EVERYTHING! I had no rules or boundaries outside of keeping my room clean and going to school. They let me stay the night wherever, whenever. I went to Germany alone with a boyfriend when I just turned 15. Granted, it was a great opportunity and we were going to go stay with his parents, but still! The thing is though, I never ever did drugs, only drank occasionally, never smoked, so I kind of feel like not being restricted, didn't make me want to do those things any more.

My parents were strict (not crazy strict, I'd say regular-strict), but our friends always LOVED coming to our house and talking to our parents. They were always there for everyone, and people always told us how lucky we were to have parents like them. We just thought they were annoying and over-involved in our lives. But apparently we had the kind of parents that all of our friends wished they had...

Mine were "cool" in that they were completely worthless as parents. My sibs and stepsibs walked all over them. They got away with any and everything. My parents couldn't control them so they tried extra hard to be their friends.
I was completely forgotten. I could literally be gone for DAYS and they wouldn't notice (it happened. More than once.) They seemed to figure that since the cops weren't showing up at the house/school wasn't calling that I was fighting/failing/being suspended/expelled/caught with drugs (aka all my siblings) that I didn't need any attention. So my friends thought my parents were cool because I had no curfew and no rules, lol.
I hope to parent in a way that Evan isn't ashamed to bring people over, but I won't go out of my way to be cool. It's more important to me that I raise a child who will be a good, productive member of society.

My mom had the perfect balance. She made us feel comfortable enough to come to her with problems, but strict enough to keep us out of trouble. Her cool factor came from her fun alternatives to situations she didn't want us in. So instead of going to a party where there would be alcohol, she'd let us have our own parties and turn the music up way too loud and buy great snacks and stuff. And she wouldnt hover. She came down to check on us once maybe and a lot of times, our friends would want her to hang out. She is very good at shooting pool and would play our friends and give them pointers, stuff like that. She didn't try too hard, she just acted like herself and our friends enjoyed that and knew that they could go to her for advice too.

My parents weren't very cool--my house was never the fun house when I was young (no junk food, had to be really quiet for sleepovers, that kind of thing). I really hope my house is the fun house when I'm a mom (welcoming, generous, etc.). But, if my kids don't think I'm cool, well, that sounds pretty normal to me.
