My mom is Japanese and the culture is a little different... we're not as touchy feely. But my mom was very warm and loving.
My dad wasn't that huggy but he would let my brother and I climb onto his legs and then he'd walk around with us clinging to his legs. Come on, that's pretty awesome!
Were your parents physically affectionate when you were growing up?

Yes, both my parents are Japanese but still were physically affectionate with hugs and cuddles with my sister and I!

Not really. It's awkward now when my mom or dad hug me.
I will be much more physically affectionate with my own kids.

Yep! Daily hugs kisses.. still hugs when I see them now and usually a kiss on the cheek from my mom!

Mine, yes. DH, not so much. Also cultural for him. But I'm sooo pleased to see that he is very affectionate with LO. It really warms my heart.

I can kind of sort of remember my dad holding me when I was really little, like 3 maybe, and my mom would hug us when we were upset, but they didn't really randomly show affection, and definitely didn't snuggle with us or anything.
SO's family is really physically affectionate, they hug constantly, and kiss each other ON THE LIPS for greetings and goodbyes. OMG I about DIED of awkwardness when his dad kissed me goodbye on the lips. I would feel really awkward hugging either of my parents as an adult.
I hope I will be more affectionate with my kids...

No, not at all with each other. My parents got divorced though, so I can see why they weren't affectionate before that. My dad hugged us, but my mom wasn't a very snuggly type, and neither really kissed us past when we were super little. My dad also always says I love yous, but my mom not so often. My husband's family is also Japanese (his grandma), and actually pretty good about hugging (maybe because I just hug anyway), but not verbally affectionate, or really expressive, at all. No emotion-sharing that way very often, besides the occasional "love you!" while saying goodbye. I, however, am very affectionate and give lots of hugs to family and friends, and snuggle and smooch my husband and baby girl all the time. Our daughter loves to see us be affectionate with each other, and I think it's healthy for her to see that mom and dad love each other.

very! and they still are.
but dh's family wasn't and still isn't--his dad shakes hands with him when he sees him, the only time he's given him in a hug in recent years was on our wedding day. i think it was a little weird for dh at first that my parents are so affectionate--they give him hugs too--but now he likes it. it actually really hurts his feelings that his parents are so formal and standoffish.

@mrbee: No, haha. Probably has a lot to do with it! They were both raised in south america.
Grandparents are very affectionate too, though. They were born and raised in Okinawa (both sides!)

Very much! We still hug and kiss a lot. And when we were growing up we had to go around and hug and kiss all of our relatives before we left. And usually when we got there too.

My mom was and is extremely affectionate with all of us kids. She still likes to snuggle us! As siblings we hug when we see each other or say goodbye, but that's it.
DH's family hugs as greetings but they aren't super affectionate otherwise. DH is insanely affectionate with me though (like, over the top, haha) so I think he will be with our little girl.

Not at all. Well they seperated when i was 3 so definitely not affectionate with each other. With us, my dad not but my mom would always hug us.

Yes, my mom snuggled us and rubbed our backs, etc. I still climb in bed with her to talk when I'm home. I model my snuggles and cuddles after hers. My dad is affectionate too, but not in a snuggly way like my mom.

Yup all the time. My mom was always was hugging and kissing us. Told us she loved us everyday til her last day.
My dad is very affectionate, its cute to see with my son. P fell to night and my dad was kissing his head where he bumped it at. It was sweet to see!
