I've always brought a stroller & carrier for my 2 & 4 year old, but I've almost always been dealing with two kids (so the likelihood of SOMEONE refusing to walk is high, and then it's likely the other kid will follow suit). I would think you'd be fine. I guess I'd consider two things -

(1) Are you comfortable having him ride your carry on suitcase, or renting and using a luggage cart like a stroller if for some reason DS refuses to walk, and you just can't get through the airport?

(2) Do you have any connections? If so, in the event you're delayed and dashing for a flight, is DS light enough that you can pick him up and run with him?

@SweetiePie: we have never used a stroller at the airport. for me the stroller is just more work in an airport setting

I only take it if I need it at my destination. Otherwise I will either wear DD2 (if I need her to be contained/flying solo) or just have her walk or ride on our roller carry-on suitcase (flying with DH). She is 20m.

@KayKay: ride the carry-on? Do you strap her carseat to the carry on? I saw someone else doing that when we flew a few weeks ago and it was certainly effective. But we check our carseat, so that wouldn't work for us.

@SweetiePie: if you require assistance getting to and from gates in a hurry, please request a cart from the gate agent. There's no need to run holding a toddler and multiple bags!

I've never brought our stroller on vacation either. I think you'll be fine without it.

@SweetiePie: no, once the kids were old enough to walk, we just had them walk. Does he have his own little rolling suitcase to pull? Both kids are really good at walking through the airport with them. It makes those long walks through an airport fun, I think.

@SweetiePie: he sounds really well behaved so it seems like he would do great walking, especially if he is good about hand holding. Good luck either way, safe travels!

@SweetiePie: I usually wear her but she also walks and we hold hands (or if my hands are full, LO holds onto my shirt hem or walks next to me).

Strollers are an additional item and additional items are PITA, in my opinion. I traveled with her solo and have never wished I had a stroller.

ETA: One thing that always helps my LO along in an airport (or anywhere!) is to tell her I will race her to X spot. Just pick somewhere up ahead and I'll tell her I'll race her but the rules are no running, only racing with walking as fast as you can. She MOVES when given motivation like that maybe that would help you too!

We stopped when my youngest was about 20 months. We knew we wouldn't need it at the destination so it made no sense to bring it just for the airport. We rarely wear her. Granted, I haven't traveled alone with them, but I would probably still go stroller-free if I knew I didn't need it at the destination.

@SweetiePie my DD is 21 months. I never bring the stroller, just wear her in the lille carrier. works great!

I did bring a stroller but checked it with the luggage. As for the airport, we used the car seat as our stroller.

We bought both used off CL. One is the Brica car seat transporter and the other is the Go go Banz cart seat transporter.

If you are bringing a car seat, I figure you might as well use it to carry a baby.

I've never used a stroller. I baby wear and plan to on doing the same for our next trip in September she will be almost 19 months.
