My parents NEVER let me sleep over ever. But my brother was allowed to. It's a cultural thing. I was sooooo sad. But my friends slept over often!
If I knew the parents well, I think I'd be ok with sleepovers in elementary school.... maybe 3rd or 4th grade (so 8 or 9)? They're such a fun part of growing up!
Did you go on sleepovers as a kid? When will you allow your LO to go on their first sleepover?

I was allowed to attend sleepovers in grade school but only at the homes of my friends from church because my parents were friends with their parents - we always slept over! I've NEVER slept over the home of school friends.
I think I will allow it when they're 9 or 10? But only if I know the parents. I would prefer to have my LO's friends sleep over our house just so that *I* can keep an eye on things...Control freaky of me.

My oldest DD has been at a friends house for a sleepover once and she was 7years old.
I'd known the mom since I was a teenager so I was really comfortable.

I'm actually not sure if I will allow sleepovers. I am honestly really worried about all the pervs out there.

I started going to sleepovers in Kindergarten. I'll probably start letting my kids go around that age too.

I think I went to my first sleepover when I was 7. My parents knew all of my friends parents really well and even grew up with some of them (really small town). I think we'd let our LO's go to sleepovers around 2nd-3rd grade if were comfortable with the parents.

I wasn't allowed to sleep over at many friends' houses, and it made me SO MAD!! I can completely understand my parents' reasoning now, though...they often didn't know the parents of my new friends! I had one friend that I was allowed to have sleep overs with regularly, and it's because my mother and hers were very close friends.
I'll probably let my LO sleep over at a friend's house at maybe age...8 or 9? Maybe? But ONLY if I know the parents well! I'd rather have LO's friends over at our house though, but I'm sure other parents will be thinking the same thing!

My first sleepover was when I was around 10 or 11. I think I would let my LO sleep over at a friend's house at around that age. But supervised of course. And only if I'm comfortable with the parents (and know them very well).

I was 9 when I was allowed on my 1st sleepover and it was only a 5 minute drive away from home but it was such an adventure! I think I'll let my kids go on sleepovers when they are about 9 as well

i'm with u, i think elementary is a good age if i knew the parents well. i think once they're in hs though, i wouldn't want any sleepovers.....

I only went to a sleepover once. My parents knew the parents. Other than that, no sleepovers were allowed. I think I'll follow the same policy.

I think 8 or 9 is okay but only if you know the parents and know the kids who are going. I worry about what they would pick up at this other person's house! Like @Rubies, I'm a bit of a control freak and would just want everyone at our house, instead of letting my LO go to other houses.

Never. We'll host sleepovers at our house though. Don't feel comfortable letting our little one stay over at non fAmily members' homes.

@Mrs. Bee: exactly! although, i think it's okay if they have people over. i just don't want them going over other people's homes. although my mom let me sleep over. usually other church members' places or my cousin's places, so i guess that's okay.

I don't remember when I went to my first sleepover, but it was young. We used to have sleepovers for birthdays. I'll let LO go in elementary school. Of course I'll want to know the parents of the house my LO will be staying at.

My mom was pretty strict about sleepovers and I'm glad she was. I think we will allow them once our kids seem mature enough, but only with parents we know really well, and it definitely wouldn't be a regular thing... at someone else's house or at ours!

I think I would allow it from about age 10. Seems like if they want to stay up all night, they can watch an approved movie or video games.
I was only allowed if it was a sleepover party. I could have anyone sleep over my house, but usually opted not to because I had 2 younger brothers who wouldn't have left us alone, lol.
