I've been told that my future pregnancies will be high risk, and I have no idea what this means other than more doctor appointments. *cue panic* Obviously this is something I will be discussing in more depth with my doctors as we get closer to TTC, but any words of advice out there?

I think it really depends on what makes your pregnancy high risk. For me, it meant a lot more doctor's appointments, which was actually great because I was reassured more often since I was able to see the baby through all of our ultrasounds. It also meant that I had a lot of opportunities to ask questions. So, what we did was continue to see our regular OB/GYN on the traditional schedule (once a month until the end of the 3rd trimester when it is more often) as well as our high risk doctor. So I was going to at least one of my doctor's office every 2 weeks. I also had to get more blood work than a traditional pregnancy.

i agree with mintedlife. depends on what makes you high risk. i'm considered high risk because i have twins. but don't think they're really doing anything different with me except give me u/s with each dr appt.

It could be because you have an underlying medical condition that would be risky during pregnancy. It would be important to keep symptoms of whatever that condition is at bay. You would be monitored more closely before, during, and after birth.

I am considered high risk because I am diabetic. This means that I work closely with a nurse to monitor my blood sugars, do some of the basic tests and screenings a little earlier than some women, and have weekly appointments to check on blood sugar and baby starting around 10 weeks. The hospital that I am connected with is very proactive about all of this. As my first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, they will also monitor me closely in regards to that.
