The Paper Bag Princess. She thinks the "you are a bum" line at the end is beyond hysterical.

Richard Scarry's "Best Word Book Ever." He calls it his "big book" and we've read it every night for the past month. He has almost every item memorized.
He's almost 2.

@youboots: I think you actually were the person who made me look it up after you said you were buying it for your DD?!
Anyways, my gut says to tell you to never get it out and that it's the most exhausting book on Earth (it's REALLY long - like 30+ pages - and he has to read and discuss every single page), BUT he's learned tons from it. We started with talking before hand about how many pages he wanted to read (he had the option of 1 to 10 since he can count that high, he usually picked 2 for some reason) and now we read the whole thing for bedtime. He knows his options at bedtime are to read the "big book" in full or to read 4 or 5 other books. He always selects the "big book." I would start introducing a few pages and see how she does! We also used to just open the book to random pages and ask him to start telling us what he knew - i.e. he would point to a cow and say, "cow says moo!"
ETA: Sorry for the novel.

@LBee: I looked it up. I was temped to get it but it sounds like 2 huge word books would be a challenge

@youboots: Ha! I actually just bought 2 more (ABC and counting) for some variety.

A: Mr Tiger Goes Wild and Pinkalicious are favorites right now. She's also really into Should I Share My Ice Cream? and The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog by Mo Willems right now. Her very favorite, though, is a children's bird watching paperback that she sleeps with and takes everywhere with her!
B: The Little Blue Truck all day every day. He's also into a series of books featuring machines and construction trucks that DH had when he was a kid. They're pretty outdated because they're from the 80s, but they are his absolute favorites. He also has gotten into Dr. Suess recently and asks for several of those each night before bed.
They are both 2.
