SMH and TIA annoy me so much.
SMH and TIA annoy me so much.

I don't like "thanks in advance" even when it's not abbreviated!
clementine / 972 posts
haha I didn't even know what TIA stood for until Mr. Bee's response! Hate SMH though... No one even says that in real life!

I don't like "THIS". I mean, I get what it means, but it doesn't make sense!
cantaloupe / 6397 posts
What's SMH?
I agree on yolo. I don't know, a lot annoy me and I try not to use them at all!
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@hergreenapples: Ah really? I don't use them, but those are pretty old school terms.
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@mrbee: LOL also bothers me, but the two I listed above to a greater extent. Mostly because no one is ever actually rolling on the floor laughing. They're just so overused.

I hate YOLO but I'm pretty okay with the rest. I want to start using YODO, because that's true, too.
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@mrbee: Perhaps to a certain extent! I think it bothers me the most when people use it as their default response, even if nothing remotely funny was said. I see it a lot with my (much younger) brother and his friends.

@hergreenapples: Those make me crazy too...and ROTFLMAO (my stepmom does this all.the.time).
The whole YOLO thing is just weird to me.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@hergreenapples: Yah I know what you mean. I think language is just evolving way faster than it did in the past!
It used to be that by the time phrases like LOL evolved in their usage, most of the people who only used the old meaning were already dead. Now it happens within a single generation! Very disorienting!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@hergreenapples: I use LMAO all the time because I really am LMAO when I type it. I know some people write LOL, but they aren't really laughing. They don't even have a smirk on their faces, but I really am laughing.
I'm not a fan of YOLO or abbreviations in general when they're made up because I get a headache trying to decipher what it means!! Quit being lazy people and type the word out. Sheesh!
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
@sooz: is that in my humble opinion? Bugs me too!
honeydew / 7444 posts
@winniebee: i hate "THIS" too. Cant people just say, "i agree"?
I dislike FTW and SMH.
honeydew / 7444 posts
@autumnlove: in my honest opinion.
I remember overhearing my older colleagues trying to figure out what IMHO meant in someone's email. They thought it was HMO spelled incorrectly and was medical related. I had to yell out down the hall..."it is in my honest opinion!"
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@caffeinated: Oh I always thought IMHO was in my humble opinion!
apricot / 307 posts
@autumnlove: IMHO (in my humble opinion), IMHO bugs me so much that I'm never ROTF, LMAO or LOL. Even if YOLO, I'd still never use it because it makes me SMH so much I get a freakin' headache. TIA.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
TIA. An old employee of mine used this all the time and it drove me up the wall. I started dreading seeing emails from him just knowing he might have written it. Haha.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@caffeinated: I did some more research, and IMHO actually stands for: "I Think You're An Idiot And Am About To Try To Humiliate You With My Superior Opinion!"
honeydew / 7444 posts
@mrbee: oops, maybe it is! Sigh, cant even get the old acronyms right.
pomegranate / 3716 posts
Ok, I seriously don't know what most of these even mean!! I must be behind... since I don't know what the rest mean, the one that personally makes me cringe is LOL. I don't know why but I hate it and have only used it maybe 3x in my life, haha!
I could not live without "OMG".
hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts
@mediagirl: Yeah, I had an employee would submit vacation requests for blackout periods and he would always write TIA like it would make a difference!
pineapple / 12802 posts
I use omg and lol a lot.
I hate FML, FTW (which originally stood for fuck the world from my understanding), KMN (kill me now). I also feel like YOLO is, as put by Jack Black, carpe diem for stupid people. Like did people think you could live twice before yolo?
nectarine / 2530 posts
not sure if these count, but I hate it when people use 'u' and 'r' instead of you and are. "U R so right!" It's two more letters people!
bananas / 9973 posts
Eeek! I'm super GUILTY of using a lot of acronyms on the web and some texts, especially LOL and OMGs (but definitely no for work emails! yikes!)
I don't like SMH (makes me think of a singles' ad) and ETA (because I always think of time).
honeydew / 7586 posts
With the exception of LOL, I make it a point to spell out all of words while texting/emailing.
My husband's sister uses acronyms in all of her text messages and it takes me FOREVER to try to figure out what the heck she is trying to tell me! Maybe I am just getting old...
pineapple / 12802 posts
@shopaholic: Oh, it took me FOREVER to figure out what ETA was and I was too embarrassed to ask anyone. I was so stumped. Seriously, years of guessing.
@rahlyrah: I try to make a point of spelling out all words in almost everything I do. With the exception of lol & omg.
I also, more than occasionally, say meow instead of now, and I know it's super immature but I love it and am obsessed with cats and I just cannot control myself.
pomegranate / 3604 posts
i don't like FML, YOLO, SMH.
and lol has morphed from laugh out loud to "i literally have nothing to say"
ETA: i hate it when someone's profile is all acronyms. baby-related stuff is particularly guilty of that....although i wonder if its because we're all typing one-handed?
