I'm not sure if you meant your mom doesn't understand the whole putting LO to sleep on her back thing, or insists on it. My mom insisted on NOT putting LO to sleep on her back but we did it anyway.

Also, CIO. She said CIO would give my LO a bad personality. What?!

Well, LO isn't here yet, but my mom already doesn't understand the sleepsack or swaddle instead of a heavy blanket.

Both moms would probably FLIP OUT if we turned on the fan in the baby's room (as our Baby CPR class teacher advised to prevent SIDS). NO wind/cold/or breeze should EVER touch baby in their minds!

@autumnlove: when my LO was under a year old, my mom and grandma didn't understand why I wasn't giving her water!! They kept asking if she was going to get thirsty. My grandma even made the suggestion of giving her water with a bit of honey to keep her FULL in between feedings. I guess they did that with me and I'm alive, but boy oh boy have times changed!

My MIL gets mad that I don't allow her to rock my 6.5 month old to sleep for naps. I live for the snuggles, but my LO is a master at "give an inch, take a mile." One rock to sleep, and she has thrown fits about napping for a week straight!

She's always wrapping him in blankets. Drives me nuts because he's sweating! He's not cold!

She fed him a bottle of water here & there when I visited for Christmas. Just...waa?

My FIL is worse though. "So how long are ya gonna breastfeeding for?" "Shouldn't you be giving him bottles with pablum yet?" Blahblahblag shut uppppp >_<

My mother thinks my BM is not enough for my 2.5 month old and she HARASSES me about giving her cereal!!!!

My parents didn't get BLW, no one understood why I swaddled her as long as we didn (until they saw her immediately calm down in a swaddle!). I didn't even tell them how much we co-slept during her 4 month regression.

I am so lucky my older sister had a baby first! She broke my mom in on so many things! Plus, my mom raised 5 kids with very different personalities, so I think she realized how something can work on one baby and not on another. We shall see how my MIL is, since it's her first grandchild, but I think she will keep her mouth shut if she disagrees

@MrsTiz: Ugh, I know. And this woman is not usually with the guilt. It's such a nasty thing to inflict on a child, guilt eating. It really pisses me off, since I had to work so hard to get to a healthy place with my eating habits.

@autumnlove: whaaaaat?? I would want to slap her and see how she likes it!

My dad thinks swaddling is basically baby torture. And he gives me a hard time about her chunky belly. All she eats is breast milk.... It's not like I'm giving the kiddo Cheetos!! My mom just thinks I'm generally absurd for following the "rules" so strictly. She thought I was being dramatic by asking her not to lay a loose blanket over LO in her bassinet.

@Mrs. High Heels: ugh MIL kept trying to tell me my 2 month old needed water. ...and you wonder why Im not ok leaving him with anyone yet.

Also everyone keeps telling me to let him CIO. I appreciate that this is a good choice for some, but not for us, especially at 2 months.

Happily my mom thinks I'm a good mother, but she did make noise with my first baby that I should let her cry more. Not my style, mom. She's backed off a lot with my second baby. Maybe she's accepted my stubborness? She was saying something similar to my sister in law (spoiling the baby, whatever) and I had to give her (my SIL) a pep talk about how she knows what's best for the baby and to not worry about my mom.

@MamaMoose: Both my mom and MIL think the same thing regarding following the "rules." Oh well- they aren't the ones who would have to live with themselves if knowingly not following the "rules" caused something bad to happen to my little baby.

My mom doesn't understand my wanting to breastfeed my LO. When we were having trouble in the beginning she was the first to tell me to switch to formula. My goal is to get to a year and she has said several times that she thinks a year is way too long and it is getting "weird."

My MIL scolded me for waking the baby to eat...during the day...when she last ate 3 hours ago. At about a week old. My mom likes to show that she can calm any crying baby. So when the baby starts rooting and fussing and eating her hands, rather than passing her off to me to nurse, she marches around the house with her to quiet her down. Yes, it works temporarily, but it guarantees that she'll hand me an infant who is screaming her head off instead of just a little fussy.

@sera_87: lol, my mom did this too - always overheating my baby! and thought by going outside he was sure to "catch a chill" - whatever that means!

@PrincessBaby: YES!! THIS! My 4.5 month old failed miserably at his first try of cereal and I just don't think he's ready. My mom has been harassing me to give him cereal since he was 2.5 months. And b/c he rejected it, I must be doing something wrong! And I'm starving him! "he must be sooo hungry!"

I also get complaints about having him on a "hard mattress" with no pillows or blankets. She also thinks he'll sleep much better on his tummy.

Ah, and the juice/water thing. When the doctor told me to give him prune juice for his constipation, I got told by her not to since it will give him way more gas. Now that I'm giving him juice sometimes, she "told me to give him juice from the start." Right...
