Someone posted this on FB the other day:
http://www.janetlansbury.com/2013/10/the-real-reasons-toddlers-push-limits/
One part of this really struck me -
"When parents say more than a sentence or two about the limit-pushing behavior, even while remaining calm, they risk creating a tale about a child with a problem (perhaps he hugs his baby sister too forcefully) which then causes the child to identify with this as his story and problem, when it was just an impulsive, momentary behavior he tried out a couple of times."
I have been trying to figure out what stories I am teaching DS to identify with ever since reading this. Then I started thinking, what stories do I identify with?? One thing I have realized is that I tell myself I am somehow less of a mom than my friends (online or IRL) because I WOH long hours, and my DH stays home with my kids so he is "more" of a parent to them. I need to talk myself out of this story.
What stories do you identify with?
