DH & I both came home early from work. I tried to get gas on my way home (I know, I should have done this yesterday!) and I drive past a pizza shop with a glass front & all the glass was gone, gas station was closed, the pillars on the front of a building were knocked out, wires across the entrance to my carport & the siding coming off out building I put a stew in the oven already & we have a stack of DVDs to watch. I had to convince DH he couldn't to to go to the gym, he's crazy!! We still have power which I'm thankful for!

    How's everyone else holding up?

I'm home alone with two dogs (ours plus my parents') for the next few days :-/. DH'S at a conference in Indianapolis and my parents left their dog with us to go to Europe. I have lots of water, flashlights and food that doesn't need electricity to cook.

Luckily the power's only flickered here. I may go crazy if it goes out, haha.

wow... stay safe everyone!! I have a lot of family and friends on Long Island, my BIL is a cop out there and he said they had to evacuate 400,000 people along the coastline of LI! Really scary... praying for everyone!!

good luck with those kiddos - I could not imagine the potential of losing power with a baby!!

@oliviaoblivia: I'm so sorry to hear that :(:( I lost two grandmas within the last couple years and it is always really hard... It sounds like your family is really supporting each other through it though and that is so crucial.

We still have power thank God. Apparently the brunt of the storm is supposed to hit our area at 630.. just in time for bedtime. Awesome. Lmw is teething so we've been fighting to get her some decent sleep... a little tough with a restless bored toddler in the house! I'm so praying we don't lose power. I don't want to have to pump in the car... and how will the kids sleep without white noise??

Oh, forgot to add.. we prepped yesterday by stocking up on ready to eat foods yesterday (a rotisserie chicken, those pinwheel sandwiches from Costco, and of course ice cream), filling the car with gas (we can charge our phones and laptops in there, and I can pump in there) and positioning our flashlights and batteries in easy to reach places.

@mrs. wagon: do you have a white noise app on your phone you could put on while they're falling asleep? I have sleep machine lite on my iPhone & it's great!

@mrs. wagon: could the sound of rain count as white noise?!

cb is out cold right now. we powered through nap time (i.e. he didn't nap) so he could go down early tonight. we're just getting to the really bad part of the storm, so i wanted him to be asleep in case we had to deal with anything!

@mrs. bird: @Mrs. Cowgirl: yea I think LMW will stay asleep without white noise, but WJ will probably wake up... but we can use a white noise app on one of our phones.

@Mrs. Cowgirl: such a good idea to skip the nap to ensure a good and early bedtime (and deep sleep)!!

Sandy didn't want to be outside alone I guess, she's made her way through the roof & into our kitchen we're the top floor of our building, so I'm not worried about flooding, but we're def getting water damage!

@mrs. bird: Oh no! Do you rent? I assume you won't be responsible for paying for repairs?

  27. mrs. bird

    bananas / 9628 posts

@lawbee11: we do rent, thank god! we've been telling our landlord for the past 3 years that the roof leaks, but he doesn't seem to care =/ this is a new one though, it was coming through the light fixtures in the kitchen. it was pretty bad, so maybe he'll do something about it now. the paint was stripped off the door frame outside, which seems kinda crazy 'cause it was fine before. the whole building took a beating. we're thankful it wasn't worse though!!

@oliviaoblivia: I'm so sorry for your loss!

@mrs. bird: oh nooo!! I hope you guys are ok! if the landlord takes too long to repair damage be careful to check for mold - our house is so prone to it. do you have a humidifier you can run in the kitchen for the time being? maybe grab some (a lot) of damp rid buckets?

we just hung out all day. we luckily didn't lose power, it was just windy and rainy (northern RI). I'm dealing with mastitis so we laid low, watched tv and played the game of life
