What are people planning for their LOs 2nd birthday? We went all out with LOs 1st birthday and are looking to spend under $1k for the 2nd birthday.

I felt like we went "all out" for her first and spent just under $425 for 40 guests.
I am wavering back and forth on party or no party for her second. I will be 5 months pregnant and I'm not sure I'll feel up to it! And $ is a huge factor too.
I waver between having a big party or a party with just us, grandparents and some daycare friends or just a dinner with us and grandparents. I'm really not sure at this point!

We are going to have a small party with just family. Grandparents, etc. (We just threw a huge 1st bday party)

We still have awhile since it's not until next fall, but I'm planning a Fall Harvest/pumpkin carving party for friends/family. It will be laid back, at our house, and will be under $400 for 35-45 people. Just a time to all get together with a firepit for hotdogs and marshmellows, and other yummy fall food!

We are having her grandparents and cousins over for cupcakes and that's it! lol! I'm due with her sibling 4 days after her birthday so I will either be miserably pregnant or have a newborn. Either way, just cupcakes and family.

@autumnlove: We are leaning towards a party at Little Gym, it's only $300 to rent the site. So, it's a great deal!

We did her 2nd at an indoor play gym too and it was awesome! They do all the set up and clean up...the kids can run around like crazy and parents can relax and watch their kids play. Ours included pizza delivery so that was the main food item and just set up some extra food (meat and cheese tray with rolls to make sandwiches, fruit salad, pasta salad, snack station for kids, cupcakes). It was easy peasy and I loved that I didn't have to clean my house before and after a party

We'll probably do a super low-key party with some friends. Her first party wasn't too outlandish, and I doubt we'll have a big one again until she asks. We'll let her have parties as big as she wants on the 5s (5,10,15)

@littlek: hm. I guess so. M went to a Chuck E Cheese for the first time when I was home for Thanksgiving and she loved it!

Very low key party with just close friends at our house. We will probably get pizza and buy a cake, that's it.

We're throwing her a friends and family birthday/welcome back party about a month after her birthday, due to us moving home from Europe.
We're going to rent a park pavilion and do BBQ.

we probably do it at that bounce place that has a bunch of bouncers for the kids.

We are doing super small for his 2nd. We only have a couple of children that we'll be inviting, and just immediate family. I'm thinking about renting a pavilion at a local park and letting them play on the playground. That's probably what he would pick if he had a choice, anyways. Grill hamburgers and hot dogs, and be done with it. I won't have to get my house messy and I can put it all together in like an hour.

@locavore_mama: ours is different than Little Gym...it's in an actual gymnasium (think the gym at the YMCA)...it's a super nice, new facility at a local community center. They set out tons of riding toys (cozy coupes, radio flyer riding toys, schwinn low trikes) toddler sized slides, teeter totter, bouncy house, small basketball hoop, etc). They have "indoor playground/play gym" during the week and my LO loves it. And you can have parities on the weekends by reserving the facility and they'll do themes and set tables/chairs.

We will do the same as last year - casual outdoor BBQ. However this year we are not living near family so it will be much smaller but we will invite some of Ts buddies this year. Theme will be planes or elmo.

@winniebee: I was trying to come up with a theme too.. I have no idea. I want to do pirates but not yet, I want him to "get it." I did monkey last year.

@sandy: ooh I should see if my local Y does something similar!

@locavore_mama: check neighboring cities too. Our city has a community center 5 minutes from our house and we go to indoor play gym there every week but I preferred the facility in a neighboring city bc it was a bigger gym and it had more flexible time slots.

@littlek: t loves planes and he loves elmo so I figure he will get them both!

We had a low key party in our building's clubroom for DD's 2nd birthday. Usually there's a rental fee, but I invited a bunch of moms from our apt's mommy's group, so the fee was waived. Haha.
I think around 30 ppl came. We spent about $600. Catered brunch from a local restaurant, got cake, decorations.

@sandy: I live in a "rich" neighborhood so we have the nicer new facilities. Hehe But I'm not rich we just bought a fixer upper!

@littlek: puppy theme will be soooo cute! M loves her doggie!
I'm doing Daniel Tiger, regardless!

Wow - we did two first birthday parties for DD's first and spend under $100 total. DS didn't have a first birthday so we spent $0.
For DD's second we just had family and spent about $35 on a cake.

We are doing a low key family/close friends party at our house..by then I'll have a newborn in tow (LO #2 will be 4 weekish old). It'll probably be a combo 2nd birthday/sprinkle.

@locavore_mama: yep, LO had a blast during the free play portion. She didn't really enjoy the music class.

We’re doing pretty much the same as we did for her first birthday – party at our house with friends and family. This year I think we’ll invite her friends from daycare, whereas her first birthday was mostly just our friends lol
The theme is going to be Winnie the Pooh and I’m pretty sure I’m going to guilt my brother into dressing up in a Pooh costume, if I can find one that isn’t too expensive. We’ll serve food, drinks, etc. Pretty laid back event all around.
We don’t have any places like Gymboree near us, so parties at home it will be for a while!
