I have 2 year old twins. Last Xmas and this one, they will get a photo album I make on Shutterfly of all the kids' photos. Then they each get something else that they ask for--they tend to send lists.

Homemade treat (undecided food item) and pictures. I just don't know them well enough to think of much & now that we have LO, I totally use photo gifts as a cop out. They might get a hand print ornament too.

@chopsuey: thank you for posting about the code! I have had a few items saved and was waiting for a good promo code. I made 3 collages of the photos we have of Ava. Here are 2 of them - the other has her full name so I won't post bc this isn't gold. THANK YOU!
To answer your question - we are getting my inlaws a nice new knife set. We got them shun knives on a great black Friday deal.

You can't go wrong with photo gifts!
DH normally handles his own parent's gifts. However, since LO2 turned 1 at the end of November, I finished her one year photo album and they will get a copy, which will probably be delivered right around Christmas, so I hope that counts. I ordered through shutterfly, which had 50% off of photo albums when I placed the order!

@anonysquire - PERFECT!
My husband's folks are split and both in new relationships.
We got his mom and her husband a box of candy from my parents' local confectioner, a bag of FANCY caramel corn, and will probably also get them them the book on tape by Chris McCandless' sister (my husband's mom loved Into The Wild).
We got his dad + dad's girlfriend a bottle of wine in a fancy holiday wine gift bag (which probably cost more than the wine, lol), and a box of smoked sea-salt caramels.
Our budget for each couple was $30, and I think we went over by about 30% on both. Sigh.

My in-laws always request cash. Plus, I will also give them my son's school pictures with our Christmas card.
One year, we bought them a nice set of bath towels and hand towels from Pottery Barn, but they complained and now want cash. I even got them a gift card to Macy's one year before my DH and I were married, and they still complained. So cash, it is.
pomegranate / 3401 posts
Just a picture of LO. They specifically told us not to buy them anything but I feel weird not getting them anything! They can't complain about an LO picture, right?

@DisneyBee: They REQUEST cash? How strange! And ungrateful!

We are seeing my MIL for Christmas so I am making her a gift tower:
1) Body butter, Eos lip balm, Mascara (Bath & Body Works sale!, I found a top ten list of best mascaras and will get that from Ulta, Eos is at Target, which is where I found the gift box for the top tier).
2) Snowflake Pretzels (Crate & Barrel sale!)
3) PJs in her favorite color (Soma sale!)
Gifts are more special when the presentation is pretty. The tower will have a rectangular base, followed by a round tin, topped with a smaller rectangle.

@travellingbee: YES! I know, right?! My hubby and I argue about this a lot, but he tells me that it's an Asian thing. The thing is...I'm Asian! Lol. Oh well....one less thing to shop for.
I grew up with Christmas being a holiday of unwrapping gifts around the Christmas tree. Then I see them opening a card and waving the cash in their hands. Makes me sad.
One year, I was so mad that they didn't get my LO a Christmas gift for his first Christmas. But that's another story...
