I ordered our stockings last night, woohoo! I have waited for years to order matching family stockings 
and now I'm thinking of what to fill J's with.
Here are some of my ideas (she'll be 7.5 months):
Book
Tooth brush
Hair clips/bows
A small Haba toy
Charm bracelet--we plan to add a charm every Christmas
Socks

How about bubbles for a bubble bath? We are planning on putting that in LO's stocking this year along with a few bath toys.

My daughter will be 8 months. We are trying to keep things simple because we don't have a lot of space and, you know, she's 8 months old. That said, I'm more excited about stuffing her stocking than anything else. Hopefully she gets the concept of pulling stuff out of it by that time!
I'm going to do:
-a mango (my mom always puts an orange in our stocking, but she definitely prefers mangoes- we will let her go to town on it later)
-a finger puppet
-an egg shaker
-a rattle with a bell in it
-maybe a ball (I'm sewing one, not sure if it will fit so it might be an actual present instead)
-probably some of those smartwool booties

Oops I started a thread similar to this just after you did. I asked about toddlers though, but maybe the two threads combined can help get more ideas

@Silva: We're doing an orange too was thinking of maybe trading out for a banana since she likes those and can eat it by herself. Love the musical instrument ideas! She loves music class and her rattle with a bell.

@emg86: We are pretty much doing a musical instruments theme this year! For under-the-tree gifts we're doing a drum and a xylophone (and a couple books). We live in such a small apartment that I"m trying to only purchase gifts that she will use for a long time, rather than accumulating more stuff that I have to store away in a few months!

@emg86: we are getting the Plan Toy Oval Xylophone and the Plan Toy Solid Wood Drum.
Also getting her the Plan Toy pull along snail because I can't resist, but it totally breaks my rule about toys she will play with for a long time.
